I'm working on my Ex with the 5.0 and am hoping some other 5.0 owners on here have some experience with the coolant pipe. Here's a thread that states unscrewing it from the engine. https://www.explorerforum.com/forums/threads/removing-coolant-tubes-5-0.388203/#post-3168442

The problem is the new tube I have doesn't have the nut that screws into the engine. It has some rubber o-rings, so it looks as if it should press in. See attached picture for reference.

Not sure how to handle this now.
Could I pry the old pipe out leaving the nut in place?

Do I need to unscrew the nut and transfer it over to the new pipe?

Do I need to find a new nut for my new pipe?

I posted over at the explorer forum, but have gotten no replies yet. I'm hoping one of ya'll might know something here. Thanks.

I can't remember off hand. I'll try to stop at my parents this coming weekend to look of you haven't found an answer.

I was sent this diagram, it looks to be 2 separate parts and the nut at one time was available solo. I’m going to try to separate the 2 and see how I come out.

Got it out, here a link to the process for any curiosity.

Weird setup. Glad you got it figured out. Is the replacement part plastic or metal? I couldn't find any reference to it in parts lists. Surprised it wouldn't press into the nut when it was screwed into the manifold.

I was able to tap it into the nut while it was screwed in, I removed the nut to clean it out.
It’s metal and goes to the back of the engine to connect to the heater hoses. Back there it was rusted badly. Had to get the pipe on eBay.

I've thought about running braided lines instead of metal on mine. I could then fish them under the inside of the intake. I'd rather them go elsewhere as I won't use the heater much if at all.
