Don't normally post this info but...
We'll be in Grand Island NE the end of June, since my son qualified 4-H Nationals Shooting Sports in Air Rifle. We've known for awhile now but looks like the funding will be there now, so any guys in NE or near Grand Island I'll be there for a week, so will some 200 kids (13-19) that can shoot a eraser sized target at 200yds.

I wish there were shooting sports when I was in school. Really cool they have these opportunities

That's like a 2 day drive for me. :P
Well its 12 hrs of driving by google. The question we are having is will we stop and get a room some where between Kansas City and Omaha or not.

Hope it works into a scholarship for him but we know that can't happen until his Sophomore year.

For those that may be curious about the safety aspect of Shooting Sports, lets just put it this way the insurance rates for an event are the same as for a speaking event, animal showings/events are significantly higher.

I drove to Des Moines for a work job last fall and it was about a 10 hour drive. I left at 9ish and was there around 5 local time, including a single fuel/lunch stop midway near Chicago. We're also headed down to my sister's place in a couple weeks (she lives about an hour south of Nashville which makes it about a 9 hour drive with a pit stop). IMO it's completely doable in a single day... though depending on your family, it may be "kinder" to spread the trip out over two days. Plus that gives you plenty of time to enjoy the trip, rather than the destination.

My wife has family in Omaha so that's why we may stop there (even though its only 2 hrs away from Grand Island). I've taken a extra day off to get there in 2 days, now getting back is another story .

When we were in AR driving to Knoxville was a single day, a few times was there an back in a day, 500miles each way.

Personally, I would stop. I thougth 8 hours to Vegas one way was a bit much, but we still did it every year.

Enjoy the drive, plan ahead and most of all, be safe, drive safe and enjoy!
