Oil pump prime tool

Anyone ever used one like the link below?
I’m going to start working on my jeep again, it’s been dry for about 2 years, you know life gets in the way of living sometimes. I replaced the oil pump along with other stuff and I’m thinking I want to prime it before I try to start it.

Also, to do a compression test should I add some oil through the spark plug holes before rotating the engine being it’s been down for so long?
 
I've used tools like that on chevys. Adding oil to the cylinder may give you a high reading, as it will make marginal rings seal well. Turning it over, and letting it sit for a bit after the oil will let it drain, and give you a better reading. I do it twice, one "dry" after letting it sit, and one with oil, as a way to judge ring condition.
 
I’ve used similar tools on distributor engines, it works fine. Is it that necessary? Meh. You’re pulling out spark plugs anyway, pull them all out and crank the engine with the starter with the ignition off and it’s just as effective.
 
It certainly won't hurt to prime it with something like that. I don't know if that specific tool will work in a Jeep engine or not though. I usually run it until I see oil coming out of the tips of the pushrods. On front mount oil pumps you can use a cheap pump garden sprayer in inject pressurized oil into the engine that way. I've also done the crank the engine with no spark plugs when neither of those methods was practical.
 
I have one for my 3.8/5.0. Though with the 3.8's external pump it must be packed with vasoline anytime its removed from the timing cover....
 
I have a 1 gallon sprayer I use on my 4.6; since the red car has been sitting, I've hit it several times to bring the pressure up.
I hook it into the galley plug in the head, open the drain plug, and run it thru. I pour it back in the sprayer for next time.
I've had rain everyday I go out to work on it. :( If I can get some decent gas in it, and put on the trans cooler lines, I can start it.

I do the same. Bleach sprayer. For modulars. I take a plug out of the bottom of the oil filter adaptor and install a small brass ball valve and barbed fitting. That way shut the valve and start it up. Once everything's good remove the valve and replace plug.
