Trudeau was Canada's Obama. Ran on a campaign of hope and change and young ideas. I was in Ottawa in 2015 and watching that campaign go down felt like a mirror of 2008.
Big difference though was after Trudeau won, he catered to the far left that Obama widely ignored while in office. In doing so, he did the opposite of Obama and abandoned the center voter. That ultimately dug a divide between him and the electorate. Had it not been for the NDP, he'd have been toast in 2021.
I was listening to the CBC today and was shocked at how hard they were coming down on him and Jagmeet. Essentially they were crapping their pants scared over how Trump will exploit this to Canada's disadvantage between now and the inevitable election early this summer.
They were mostly pissed that he didn't resign sooner and is now a lame duck leading a prorogued Parliament with Trump taking office in two weeks. They had words for Jagmeet too after his fiery statements asking where the hell he's been for the past six months.
I know the CBC isn't perfect or wholly unbiased, but man it was a breath of fresh air for them to call it like it is.
With that being said, I can't wait to watch Mark Carney get skulldragged by Pierre in a few months. Feels like 1984 all over again.
