The colts, with Johnny Unitas, was my favorite team.
I speak just enough Spanish to have been able to converse with customers in my time as a service writer. My wife is fluent in Spanish and French and was once a high school foreign language teacher. Neither of us could understand any of it. I went to make a coffee when he started dancing on the pickup.No. Dude came out mumbling so bad I couldnāt even tell what language he was allegedly singing in. I heard something on the radio that it was the most watched halftime show ever, but I call BS on that.
Perhaps the Coronas and tequila helped with that though.
I was listening to the NASCAR channel on SiriusXM yesterday and this got brought up. They were discussing NASCAR holding races internationally and whether it actually added to the fan base or was just a novelty. They brought up the international NFL games and BB's show as a comparison. What will be interesting long term, is of any Spanish speaking people that don't currently watch the NFL will moving forward.
I didn't watch any part of the Super Bowl other than some clips of the fourth quarter, but I did listen to a few Bad Bunny songs on YouTube for the first time after reading your post to get some context. I was thinking it wasn't going to be any more controversial than Despacito was in 2017, which despite being classified as reggaeton (I don't agree; more on that later), honestly picked up a memed reputation for being severely overplayed more than anything else.I just wanted to ask, did you guys watch the Super Bowl halftime show??
Personally, I donāt like that music and as a Latino it gives us a bad wrap. That shit is pretty much immoral sex music, glorying 1 night stands and shit like that, on the other hand our women love that weak ass music haha every song is literally the same thing. Rediculous, women donāt want to be objectified but they objectify themselves through this music itās crazy.
But whatever. One artist's music doesn't give an entire ethnicity a bad rap. You can't treat an entire group of people as a monolith.
Oh, I know and agree on this. It was more of a general statement that people should be conscious of their biases and actively challenge them, but a lot of people unfortunately validate their beliefs by giving more credence to examples that confirm them due to laziness or ignorance. It's like the Mexican filter in movies. The fact that it's called the Mexican filter is telling enough. Not to sound confrontational or anything but people already kinda do, they hear Mexican or Spanish and immediately think of tequila and narcos haha
Thereās a chicken or the egg situation going on here. Is society collapsing because the music is terrible, or is the music terrible because society is collapsing? I tend to think itās more the latter. Certainly thereās a feedback loop where one artist like that becoming huge leads to more people mimicking them, but in a healthy society, I tend to think there isnāt the appetite for it. Look back at the 90s, and there were plenty of bands with extremely violent or sexualized lyrics, but they were niche, not mainstream, and certainly not playing to any audience as large as the Super Bowl. Not to sound confrontational or anything but people already kinda do, they hear Mexican or Spanish and immediately think of tequila and narcos haha
while I do believe in freedom of expression and doing and hearing whatever you like, this music is detrimental to society as a whole. Itās literally sexual immorality and depravity. I donāt think itās good for the youth to listen to this because it promotes a life style OTHER than whatās natural, a health long term relationship instead of multiple flings.
Personally I blame social conditioning and the powers that be controlling the masses through music. Itās pretty easy to corrupt the youth through music in this way.
For example, cardi B (donāt care much for her either) has said in interviews that she DOES NOT play HER OWN music around her children, I wonder why that is.
Anyways, I donāt care what people like or donāt like, I just see how something as simple as music can have disastrous effects in the long term, aka the birth rates plummeting and nobody getting married anymore. Pretty much the big wigs donāt have to bomb us or kill us, we are slowly dying faster than we can reproduce![]()
Definitely I get what youāre saying, I mean in the sense of, every year the music gets more and more immoral. Consistently getting more and more graphic, for example my mom and many Mexican women are huge novels fanatics. The change they have gone through is crazy, novelas now a days are pretty much soft porn. Same thing with music, itās becoming progressively worse as the years go on, much more vivid and destructive. But like I said to each his own.Thereās a chicken or the egg situation going on here. Also small tip for anybody thinking of maybe speaking Spanish a lil bettter. My advice is always try and read the alphabet in Spanish and itāll definitely help you speak it fluently. The tonality of the alphabets is different, English is like a lower tone compared to Spanish.
20 years ago it was hard to find gay people on tv.
Or on automotive forums for that matter!
But again, I disagree to an extent. My perception of 20 years ago is that gay people, or gay content, was present. Watch old Frasier episodes for example, and you'll come across gay-themed episodes. Golden Girls. Mainstream stuff.
What's different nowadays is that gay characters are shoehorned into every show, just for representation, which feels forced. That's one way to look at it.
Another way to look at it is that gay characters are ever-present because that's just reality. I mean can you go a day without interacting with at least one gay person?
It's just harder nowadays to ignore gay people. Which seems fine. I think what's more problematic is that gay issues, like most things, have become more polarized. For example, people in favor of gay marriage are considered left nowadays; makes no sense. Marriage and monogamy are clearly conservative values; if you're in favor of gay marriage, you promote conservative values within the gay community. Case in point, Kelsey Grammar, famously a Republican, is a strong proponent of gay marriage.
@XR7-4.6 i get what you mean, Iām just saying it gets progressively worse with each generation. Lets say for example 20 years ago it was hard to find gay people on tv, now they are in everything haha. Times are changing and will continue to change. To started with regaeton, now this is the new iteration, more vulgar. Since I speak Spanish (not to toot my own horn) I understand these lyrics and godamn, itās crazy.
well in the 1960ās the population blew up due to everybody coming back from WW2 and getting it on if I remember correctly. Plus the nuclear family in those days was much more cherished than it is now, nobody wants to get married anymore or itās a lot more difficult. Everybodies advice is to just get divorced if your not happy as opposed to working on it.
Plus, Iām Olin the boat that thinks a smaller society is a lot easier to control. I get your point of they need us in numbers for them to sustain their lifestyle, but I always remember that scene from ants where the grasshoppers are talking about the threat of the ants in NUMBERS. So I feel like they are threatened by us. Tin foil hat thought, I believe that is what Covid was, a way to reduce some of the population and get rid of alot of the older folks taking in their retirement funds. But thatās another topic that most wonāt agree with.
