Hello all,

I am likely relatively young compared to most here so I apologize if these are stupid questions. I have no idea how OBD-1 works. My confusion is that when I researched what OBD my 1994 thunderbird should have I am seeing it should have OBD-I, yet it has a OBD-II port? I am getting a CEL that reads as a lean code according to AutoZone. I also have my Airbag light flashing in a 5-3-5 pulse pattern, and I am unsure of if that pattern means anything. I also just had my Antilock light start staying on 100% of the time, and my traction control refuses to turn on after spraying down the front tone rings while me and a friend had the car up on a lift. |

Any advice or information is greatly appreciated! Sorry if these are silly questions.

The 4.6L MN12s for 94 and 95 were equipped with an advance form of OBD-II. The v6s still used OBD-I until the federal mandate kicked in effective for the 96 model year.

The only thing the 94/95 OBD-II doesn't monitor that the 96+ version does is EVAP purge flow data. Most OBD-II scanners will work, though there are some that won't for whatever reason.

The ABS/SRS computers still use an OBD-I style DLC.

Here are ABS codes and how to pull them: https://forum.birdcats.com/threads/reading-abs-codes.564/

Also, good reminder - I thought I made an SRS codes thread but apparently I never copied it over.

The 94 V6 models, though they use the OBD1 format, they are still equiped with an OBDII connector under the dash. It does little to nothing for the V6. The OBD1 connector is on the passenger side engine well, for what its worth.

They do ? I would like a functional OBD2 connector on my 94 SC.

My connector cover is long gone with my old dash unfortunately but it actually had a sticker that said something akin to “4.6 V8 only”
