i just want to say up front that i'm aware the market for something like this is really small, and i don't expect it to be an easy sell. however, i have to at least try to get a fraction of what i have into all this stuff. that being said, i am of course willing to wheel and deal to facilitate things, whether it's to split some stuff up (although i won't split up the most critical components, e.g. the cold side from the hot side) or just negotiate the price depending on delivery/pick up arrangements and stuff like that.
now on to the ad!
i'm selling my entire turbo kit and all the related parts necessary to install and run the kit into any MN12 Tbird or Cougar with a minimum amount of work or modification to the car it's going into.
first off, the short block and cylinder heads in the pics are NOT included but the upper and lower intake manifold IS included (i'm working on getting the heads i have checked out and ready to sell but i don't have an ETA yet.) that means to use this kit on any 3.8 Tbird/Cougar (superchargerd or NA) you must source a pair of split port 3.8 cylinder heads (such as the 99-04 Mustang ones) to use this kit as it is. otherwise, the kit *should* bolt on to single port heads without issue, but then you would need to use a naturally aspirated 3.8 intake manifold and TB and make a new charge pipe that mates to it, and probably other things like modifying the harness, using a different fuel rail etc.
the kit was a collaborative effort by Corey Binkiewicz and David Dalke and served as the prototype for a small number of kits they made after this one. it's designed to retain factory air conditioning and the throttle body was even modified to accept the Tbird/Cougar cruise control cable. the idea behind all of this (at least for me) was 'what if Ford continued the Turbo Coupe in 1989 but used the 3.8 V6' and this was the result.
the whole kit uses v-bands except for the T4 turbo flange, and the fitment for everything is excellent. as long as the flanges are aligned properly there are zero exhaust leaks or annoyances like pipes rattling or banging into each while going down the road.
the manifolds were made from NOS OEM Ford manifolds for a 4.2 powered E150. the crossover/up-pipe section was made from heavy duty pipe and has a flex joint for easier install.
there is a TON of stuff included with the package (and this isn't even all of it, such as spare parts i will throw in
- Precision Turbo Gen 2 6062 dual ball bearing turbo rated by PTE for 750hp, with a custom machined Garrett 0.81 AR turbine housing; it's ~7 years old and the exhaust impeller has a few small dings (i can take off the housing for pics, just shoot me a message) but other than that it worked great and was inspected by a local performance diesel shop a couple years ago and given a clean bill of health.
- AN turbo feed and drain lines
- Griffin aluminum radiator with spal 14" puller fan (was enough for 85+ degree days with the AC on, multiple dyno pulls etc, although it's obviously limited compared to a full-size radiator and bigger/dual fans - it does very well for the small space it occupies)
- exhaust manifolds with O2 sensor bungs; each manifold has a support tab that bolts to the heads/accessory brackets for added strength
- crossover/up-pipe with flex joint
- stainless steel 3" downpipe with wideband O2 bung and wastegate dump pipe with its own flex joint
- full stainless one-piece 3" exhaust with resonator and Borla XR1 muffler, also has a QTP electric cutout welded in just after the v-band (all that's needed to use it is the switch kit QTP sells, or any 3 way momentary switch should work); exits with a stainless downturn just under the rear bumper cover similar to the stock tailpipes
- Precision 46mm wastegate
- modified accessory brackets and mounting plate for DIS module
- 24x12x3 intercooler with turbo -> intercooler and intercooler -> charge pipe connections and all necessary silicone couplers and quality Mishimoto constant-pressure spring loaded t-bolt clamps
- beautifully powdercoated (w/ base and clear) charge pipe w/ Tial Q 50mm blow-off valve and SCT Big Air 5000 slot MAF
- stock 99-00 Mustang 3.8 throttle body w/ modified throttle/cruise cable bracket
- 99-00 upper and lower intake manifolds ported by Super Six Motorsports. the upper was sand blasted to be prepped for powder coating but hasn't been painted yet (obviously.) SSM also ported the TB opening to get the most out of the bigger BBK Mustang throttle body if you wanted to upgrade to that at some point
- fuel rails from (iirc) a Windstar and E-150 4.2, with a Bosch-style adjustable fuel pressure regulator (same regulator used on VW/Audi 1.8Ts.) the stock Ford spring lock fuel line fittings were replaced with 8AN (feed) and 6AN return fittings so you do need to be running AN fuel lines to use the rail - otherwise it would be easy enough to find another set of stock fuel rails for use with the stock lines
- Siemens Deka 'blue top' 80lb/hr injectors with very little time on them
- complete engine harness in good shape, modified where needed to be plug and play. all injector connectors were replaced with the more universal style connector with metal retaining clip
- Taylor 8.2mm plug wires and Motorcraft coil pack and several sets of new and used NGK spark plugs of various heat ranges
- Mishimoto 3 port air/oil separator with lines and PCV valves - one goes to the passenger side valve cover, one goes to the intake manifold. this crankcase ventilation setup worked really well and is super easy to check and drain out, just take out two Phillips head screws and unscrew the bottom half of the can.
- AEM DryFlo air filter with grommet, fitting and line to the driver side valve cover
- brand new DEI titanium turbo blanket
i am also including lots of stuff not pictured, including (but not limited to!):
- stock PCM w/ Moates Quarterhorse (for live tuning and datalogging)
- Binary Editor USB dongle for all your tuning and datalogging needs (i used TunerPro RT personally but i know most MN12 folks are more familiar with BE)
- spare parts like a brand new coil pack, DIS module, etc.
my pretty mild motor made 471hp and 509tq on a Mustang dyno at 16 psi, but this kit would also be perfect on a bone stock motor (with safe tuning, ofc) with how easy this turbo is to spool.
some work will be required on the recipient car to make the kit work, but it's pretty basic stuff including cutting a hole for the charge pipe on the passenger side and some light "massaging" of the floor above where the downpipe and exhaust connect may be necessary. you also MUST relocate the battery to the trunk.
i can transport everything to the buyer (or meet halfway) within reason. i'm located in Elkhorn, WI 53121
i'm asking $4500 - i know it's a lot, but there really is SO much here (both in terms of money invested AND countless hours poured into it by multiple people) and this is more than a hack job kit with a Chinese ebay turbo. as i mentioned at the top, i can work on the price if the buyer doesn't need/want certains parts like the Griffin rad or intake manifolds, can pick it up directly from my house etc. just hit me up so we can chat about it! you miss 100% of the shots you don't take
