Can anyone tell me whether it's possible to buy the plastic cylinder that sits on the metal peg on the door pillar? Mike's recently broken and is making the door rattle.

I can't see them on Rockauto, or anywhere else. Are they shared with any other Ford models or other manufacturers?

Is the striker pin actually broken, or did the little plastic bushing that slides over it just break and fall off? I think one or two guys on here found that using vinyl tubing from a hardware store, cut to length, slides right over the pin and works reasonably well as a replacement. :)

It's just the bushing that's broken. I was thinking that a fix like that might be a lot easier. I know someone who could probably machine me a piece of nylon out of a length of solid, to the exact sizes.

Is the plate mounted in slots or just a straightforward tapped hole? Just wondering if I'm going to need to mark the position in case it wrecks the lock alignment when I disturb it to get it off.

That happens eventually.
The actual problem is the hinge pins. Both the pins and a new door striker are cheap

I hate to link to a verticalscope site, but this recent thread on crownvic net shows a few options...

1/2 PVC is apparently a good fit, or Dorman sells the whole assembly. I bought replacement Dorman bushings years ago. I don't think Dorman makes the correct size anymore.

Doorman sells them, Amazon, RockAuto, etc. I have tried using other materials, but found the hard plastic that is sold for these stickers worked best. I typed in 1994 mercury cougar door striker and got a plethora of ones to buy. Not much luck on RA.

Thanks, now I know exactly what it's called, I'll check them out. Nothing I tried came up with anything the other day.
