Happy Thanksgiving 2024

Not a huge fan of turkey but I've never had it deep-fried. I'll trade you half of my ham for half of your bird, Derp.

Happy Thanksgiving! May everyone's indigestion stay at a minimum and your pants button/belt hold strong.

So Iā€™m watching my annual Thanksgiving favorite; Planes Trains and Automobiles tonight and I donā€™t think I ever posted here or TSTSNBN I found the very motel they stayed at where ā€œthose arenā€™t pillowsā€ happened early on in the movie. Itā€™s not actually braidwood Kansas but braidwood Illinois along i55

Fun fact I had an engine block in my trunk in this photo, selling it to a mustang guy down there!

I watched that movie a year ago after not seeing it in a couple decades. Laughed my butt off.

Best movie. We watch it every year. We have the DVD and VHS. The DVD doesn't have the airplane meal scene for some reason. Sweet picture of the rig.

Happy belated Thanksgiving!

It was my turn to host this year.

It might have been a deleted scene from the original theatrical cut as I hadnā€™t remembered that scene being in the movie the first time I saw it.

Thereā€™s actually like two hours worth of other deleted scenes for that movie, thereā€™s way more dialogue filmed with the cab driver and a whole extended scene motel scene where Dell is in the bathroom while Neal is showering that was ridiculously funny!

Yes, there seem to be several different versions with some scenes added/deleted. Apparently in the original script they actually overshoot Chicago and wind up in Milwaukee and that was filmed, but it was determined the movie was too long so they deleted all of that. As far as I'm concerned that movie could be three hours long and I'd be good with that.

I have not seen the extra scenes you reference above. I'm pretty sure I've watched one version or another every year since at least the early 90's. I've heard of a couple different potential remakes of it. I don't know how you can remake that movie.

Yeah I knew about the overshooting Chicago cut, and it makes perfect sense since the scenery and the hotel they stayed at had a distinctly Wisconsiny vibe to it that I now know was probably deliberate.

Archive.org has the deleted scenes or at least a bunch of them. The quality is really raw and unedited but well worth it.

A lot of the scenes make more sense now after watching that. Before I was just willing to roll with some of the things that didn't make complete sense (like did he not realize the bathroom was a complete mess when he got into the shower?). Some of the parts make the characters less likable, but it is good stuff to watch.

Yeah that was my take away when I saw these, the final edit made Dell much more likable than these deleted scenes where you start to agree with Neil. The comedy however is fantastic, I was crying laughing when he was arguing through the door with the pizza guy šŸ˜†
