Harness bar or seat belt conversion?

Not a fan of the choker belts on my 93 SC. Was thinking of either installing a harness bar and going with harnesses or converting to the regular style seat belts from the 94+

Need some insight on difficulty for the seat belt conversion.

Racing harnesses in a street car suck and are frankly dangerous.

The 3 point conversion isn’t terribly difficult, but you need to drill the B pillar and weld in a nut where the bolt goes through. You use the rear sail panels, A pillar trim and sill panels and belts from a 94-97 car, all of which swap directly. The 96-97 grey is closer to the 89-93 grey IME.

I believe the Canadian 1st gens didn't use the passive restraint system, so if you want a better match for the 1st gen interior and are able to find (and obtain) the parts, that might be a consideration as well. Probably about the same as like looking for hen's teeth nowadays, but worth knowing about.

Racing harnesses are not ok on the street here, and get your car towed. Seatbelts here have to be dot approved to be driven. No cages, no nitrous bottle, no non-dot headlights or taillights, no open headers.

@theterminator93 is correct all 89-93 cars here (cougars included) came with normal seatbelts, this was discussed in my new member introduction a long time ago so check it out for more info but I think what was determined was the US cars had the marks for where the holes would need to be drilled and you would need the Canadian b pillar trim and then obviously the seatbelt. I have no clue what shipping would cost from Alberta to NC but I imagine it would be ugly, If there's anyone from Ontario here they are the best best as its closest to you so shipping might be more manageable.
