Home printer recommendations

Here's an interesting tidbit. While admitting no wrongdoing, HP now has to release firmware downgrading tools and give the owners of a lot of their printers the ability to opt out of their "totally not malware" Ink brand locking Firmware.

IF you have an HP printer, it's probably worth a few minutes it's probably worth checking the lists and downgrading/block-upgrades as necessary.

Figures. I bought a laser printer over not being able to buy good carts for my inkjet. I'll be fixing the inkjet now.

This seems to not be true. The case did not cover older printers

My biggest problem with inkjets is I don't print nearly enough to ever use them up before they dry up.

To hell w/ HP and their games. I have a xerox phase and never had issues w/ it. Toner is economical. I now have a Brother HL-L3270CDW (color laser) that you connect to your wifi and it allows you to print from a smart phone or any computer on your network which is real nice. No scan though.

Looking for replace the aging HP printer. Doesn't need to have all the bells and whistles, just print and scan and user friendly! :gapteeth:

Good call! I had to replace mine as well. Got tired of the ink cartridges drying out all the time. I got an Epson Wf-4830 all in one. So far, I cannot complain. It was on sale and got good reviews so I figured "anything has to be better than the last 3 HP printers I had..."

Good luck with your choice.

One of the guys on my team used to be a copier service tech for an area MSP before we hired him on; he worked as a field tech until I identified him as a good candidate for/trained him as a sysadmin. We share the opinion that on a printer, the HP stands for "Has Problems".

I bought an hp color laser. there are removable chips in the og carts. I immediately bought aftermarket carts, and am using them. those carts had detailed instructions on how to disable updates, and a recommendation to firewall it off the internet.
The all-in one printer I had, inkjet, won't even scan photos with a non hp cart, which real ones aren't made now.

No kidding for a couple of years I bought brand new HP inkjets, then the quit just outside a warranty window. Toss it, buy another, then do it again. I did that three times. Then went Laser.

I bought a color laser for $400; not a terrible price. a new set of carts are 400, for non hp, 1000 for hp.
Its an m255.

I had an older color laser follow me home a few months ago. Don't need it often; quality is meh but it's better than not having a color printer of any kind here at home. My B&W Brother still meets the need for the once-a-month print jobs I have.
