Hey there guys and gals (are there any gals on here?)...
Instead of starting a new thread I wanted to ask a question of integrity about my new CV Axles.

I bought these half shafts from Amazon, from the GSP company. The shafts came in separate boxes. As the UPS guy was bringing the second box to me, it almost fell apart as it had been broken in half and the one end almost torn off. On closer inspection, the boxes (both) only had a carboard mold holding the axle in place, but nothing on either end to stop the slop / slap on the ends when dropped or not handled correctly. The axles are shorter than the boxes they came in. I wrote GSP about this issue of how they were shipped and damage to the half shafts from having no support on the ends. Since I doubt I will hear from them, as most companies these days are not responding to customers, I would like opinions on either keeping them or send them back expecting damage to the half shafts from being slammed on the axle ends, over and over and over...

I did repack the boxes with 4-5"s of bubble wrap on the ends so the shaft will not move. I taped up the broken box the best I could, but knowing the apes that move boxes around, it will find a way to get torn open again.

Thoughts? Comments?

Never mind, I contacted Amazon and got a partial refund. If after installing them and they are damaged, they will do a total refund.

I will never understand companies shipping practices. Never. Just amazes me how careless the can be.

On to installing them! Woot! Lot's of cussing and swearing and throwing wrenches at my wall! Damn, i love being a mechanic on weekends.

In my early 20s, I was such an ape at UPS.

Do not EVER mark your box fragile. It will be most definitely be handled with "extra" care.

Instead, secure the package contents inside it's box and tape it shut. Then, have at least 1" gap all around, place said box inside a larger - non descriptive - box using padding in that 1" (minimum) gap between boxes. Tape the bigger box shut across the two seams as well as the 4 flap edges. Place the label on the box. DO NOT MARK THE BOX FRAGILE!!!!

Additional note #1: if you (or buyer) can afford to pay for faster shipping, do it. That means less hands are touching the box and therefore, less likely to be "handled with care"..

Additional note #2: if your box ever arrives to you looking like an accordion, chances are it was not "handled with care", but rather, pinched on a conveyor belt somewhere. This is more likely to happen in the holidays season.

Excellent information CD, excellent. Thanks for sharing your tried and trued experience with a mail carrier. I do blame the sender too as so many of my packages come in a plastic bag instead of a box, which in turn supplies little protection from the carrier.

Thanks!

I took a class on shipping stuff fedex, and they said their handling equipment hits boxes as hard as a 2.5 ft drop on concrete.
Air freight is often thrown out the cargo door of a 747, up to 40 feet, onto the tarmac. Grenades are legal to ship on passenger aiecraft, the pin counts as a safety device.Fissile materials are not allowed on aircraft.

I had similar issue with a mishimoto radiator for my excursion. First one had a puncture of the tubes, second one had a cracked tank. Didn't dare try a third. Git full refund and they didn't want the cracked one back. Still have it as I was going to try to weld the plastic tank w/ a zip tie as I've seen online. 😆
