That is a good solid car to own. Just not that attrictive as a muscle car though. :(

I think they were attractive as muscle cars, but Ford had to go further out of their way to create the Marauder, sourcing and certifying the 4V powerplant. All Chevy had to do was dress up an otherwise unaltered 9C1 police package Caprice.

I always liked the Marauder but why in 2003 Ford felt the need to answer almost verbatim Chevy’s Impala SS that ceased to exist 7 years prior is and always will be a mystery to me.

What I most remember being a very young impressionable kid at the time were the dads talking about how it had the “Corvette engine” . That literally made me go “woah!” At age 7 or 8 or whatever I was at that local cruise night… now a police Caprice also had it, as did great grandpas Buick Roadmaster, but that was the buzz with them. I don’t even know how fast they are (mid 14s I’d guess?) but it’s such a cool package and such a great makeover of the standard Caprice they really are a cornerstone to my early appreciation for cars like it. Up to that point I think I was way more into the Lambos Ferraris Mclaren F1s of the time…

My father bought a new 96 SS in black. I spent a lot of time on roadtrips in that car as a kid. Never got to drive it though because he sold it in 99. We lived in a town that had a major GM plant in it, needless to say getting dropped off at school in it had all the kids super jelly!

Boattail Riviera. Sometimes I hate these but it’s a polarizing design, right now I find them stunning. It’s a two+ ton C2 Vette lol

I feel that way about all Riviera generations. They were just at the edge of reason for their times.

I think the 1st gen Riviera is near perfection, but beyond yeah. In fairness I’d say the same about most Thunderbird generations being at the edge of reason, and in fact the First gen Riv was Buick’s more classy take on the Tbird, but, after 1966 they leaned it heavily into pushing the boundaries of taste. The boat tail specifically amuses me because it was the styling anthesis of where luxury coupe design was going in the 70s, which was formal brougham (think Monte Carlo, Chrysler Cordoba etc), where the Riviera, arguably right there with the 4seat Tbirds pioneering the personal luxury coupe segment essentially out of the nowhere draped a landbarge Buick Electra with C2 Vette skin. It is practically speaking among the stupidest cars ever made, but that’s simultaneously what I’ve been admiring about it of late
 
I saw an early 60s bird tonight in the rain. It was white and a Tbird, but that's all I got.
 
Couple picks today

Chevy Nomad. Tri-Five Chevys are overexposed to the point of almost boring to me but Nomads still look sick, especially the 55s with the clean sides but they’re all cool.

Buick Regal Turbo T-type(it sounds redundant and pedantic but T-type didn’t actually mean Turbo… weirdly) maybe I’m just a contrarian but as much as the Grand National and of course the GNX are deservedly icons, the q-ship turbo Regal with the same engine and same badass turbine wheels in any color is just so much more unique.

I think I could pull off the Nomad but it'd have to be parked far from the storefronts regardless of condition. The buicks you can go right up to a 7-11 and look great
 
I've been looking at 61-62 Impalas the last week or so. The style lines on the 61 along with the roofline is the chef's kiss. The front end on the 62, is just right.

But they’re all sexy, big Chevys 60s Chevys, honestly it’s not necessarily my favorite car *right now* but I have always had a real thing for 63s

I was reading something the other day to the effect of 61 top parts in excess, so they made that top in early 62 as well. Not sure if that is true or not, but did make for a better looking car.

Funny thing to me is the 64 is the most popular, but my least favorite of all the 1960s.

I always heard it was for stock car racing(which Chevy was officially/unofficially deeply/not deeply) involved in. I’m with you on 64s. I make an exception for 62 and even 60 but I generally find of the 55-70 big Chevys the odd number years are usually the better looking.
 
Interesting, I tend to agree until 69, when it really seemed like an odd transition year. I find that with 68+ Galaxie as well. Beautiful until that point. Maybe because of the midsize segment they started to try to make them look bigger.

My father-in-law has a boat tail. He’s a bit of a hoarder and never sells a car.
 
Been in a 70s mood

73-74 Grand Am. A far cry from the Grand Ams I grew up with, they were basically the successor to GTOs considering they came standard with the 400 (optional 455) and endura bumper. I actually find a lot of commonality between these and MN12s given they handled way better than they had any business to for a big luxury coupe for their time.

Lotus Esprit S1

Supposedly Elon likens the Cybertruck to these… proving he’s a dunderhead. Yeah it’s wedgy… still has curves! And it’s just such a neat truly tiny truly LIGHT package. Esprit’s didn’t change that drastically in their run but the original is the best, I love the slot wheels on the S1.

Not factory but it’s badass. I’ll take this over a bloated new Darkhorse and its TV set dashboard, fight me. 😝

And speaking of "slot wheels", these heritage wheels on the Bronco Sport look great, and I suspect they may be a direct fit on our cars.

LMR remade the Fox 10 hole wheels in a 17” and a machined lip. 🤤

If I had gotten a 83-86 Turbo Coupe I would’ve chosen these wheels for it.

I’ve thought about using the rear 17x9 as a “drag pack” wheel just on the rear of my bird. They look pretty cool, just sucks they didn’t ny go to a 10” wide wheel tho

Saw one today! It was grey/black. Sweet. Unfortunately, opposite lane of travel

I had a neighbor with a white one, and when I drive by the old place, he just parks it on the street now. :zshrug:

I actually do love the MKIV but it’s not from F&F, it’s from this childhood N64/arcade game…

MK IIIs are cool but I tend to favor MKII in that even more 80s form, the Supra graphic on the lip spoiler sells it!
