Tony Angelo Mark VIII Build

I've been kicking myself for years after I sold the 66 2 door Falcon I had. It was a rust free California car but the interior and the weather stripping were shot. At the time there was no aftermarket available for the 66 and up cars, only the 60-65s. Like you said Matt, the engine bay was big, the plan was to drop a Cleveland into it. The car is gone but the Cleveland is still out in my shed! :p

I was truly amazed when Hal was able to evade the police in the 6-cyl version. He was nuts, tho. :) He later had an Opal gt, which is a badly overlooked performance car.IIRC, it was only a 4 cyl, but he replaced the heads, and some other stuff. He got busted for 160mph on I 40 going to class in the late 70's. That car was notable for the headlights; they were lever operated, from the console like the parking brake on sc's. They rolled sideways, unlike any other car I've seen. It had a leaf spring in front, mounted transverse, that was both the front springs for the wheels, but also pivoted to act as the sway bar, saving weight. Stiffer spring, stiffer swaybar. :)

I also frantically feel around for the hood latch 😓

If you put a big block in the grandpa version, you had to beef up the frame or it would break. Right behind the firewall, at wot.

My first car had a Cleveland in it, a 70 Mach !. It was always fun trying to buy something and explain to the parts guy the difference between the Cleveland and the Windsor. Then if it was a 2 or 4 barrel carb, man, the ports in those 4 barrel heads were big!

Had 351 Cleveland cobra jet in my '74 Cougar XR7 years ago. Loved that car and engine. Hard to find parts for both though...

Overlooked asset of those 66-70 Falcons you could physically fit and bolt in a 429/460 with no chassis alterations since they are literally just shortened and much lighter 66-71 Fairlane/Torinos under the skin, that’s what made them so formidable in Australia with the 351 Cleveland’s, they had a better power to weight ratio, less overall weight and better f/r balance than a 351C Mustang Mach 1, which Ford in their infinite wisdom loaded with tar sound deadener like a luxury Grande. They’ve got every bit of potential as 68+ Novas and 67+ Darts but for some reason most Ford guys in the US just don’t see the potential.
My 1st car in High School was a 66 Falcon Sport Coupe with a 200 and auto. I loved that car. Mom sold it when I joined the Army after graduation. Later bought a 68 Falcon Sport Coupe. Liked it even more. I remember at a local car show here in Southern Ohio back when I had my 66 a old guy had a 68 Falcon he bought new and had put a 429 in it.... needless to sat 17 yr old me was jealous as hell. Lol
