Thanks for your post. Tried exactly that. Couldn't get the wire clip out and the amount that I preloaded the back cover increased the shaft end play by the same amount.I've rebuilt pumps, just not these. If you haven't already I'd clean it all real well. Scrub the clip with a small wire brush. Spray some PB blaster on it and let it sit a day. Then I'd suggest using a C clamp to put just a little tension on the rear cover that the wire clip it retaining. That should help relieve the pressure stopping you from removing the clip. Have some picks or smaller flat blade screwdrivers available when removing the clip to pic it out. Hope that helps.
Hmmm. Interesting. I can't tell if one of your pics shows the location of the hole. I'm about to head to my shop, it's 45min. away. There is a small hole on the side of the pump you use to push on the big lock ring...
It's just a centrifugal vane pump. You can usually only get seal kits, but unless it has seen some hard times, that is all that you need.
Well, I got one from Rockauto, however, after I got my pump all apart and cleaned and went to install thenew seals, I discovered that the kit I got is for a different pump. It's for the kind with the attached round reservoir. Looking for the right kit today...Our power steering pumps are wankel engines, lol?
Where does someone find a kit for this? Pretty universal?
After a quick online search I find that Autozone has a kit among others. Autozone's kit is $32. Even though the Rockauto kt was incorrect, it was about $13. I only decided to try to rebuild mine because the kit was so cheap. $32 seems a bit steep and I don't think I would go that route. The rebuild pump I got from RA was about $73 after core charge.Well, I got one from Rockauto, however, after I got my pump all apart and cleaned and went to install thenew seals, I discovered that the kit I got is for a different pump.
