MN12 is just an easier way to say 1989-97 Thunderbird/Cougar.
MN12 is the chassis designation for the 89-97 Thunderbird and Cougar. It's a rear wheel drive platform with Independent Rear Suspension (IRS).
All automakers frequently use chassis designations as a way to easily refer to a series of cars. The 94-04 Mustang chassis is the SN95 and the 05-14 Mustang chassis is the S197. The Lincoln LS and 02-05 Thunderbird is the DEW98 platform.

Much like MN12 is the chassis designation for the 89-97 Thunderbird and Cougar, FN10 is the chassis designation for the 1993-1998 Lincoln Mark VIII. The FN10 is very similar to the MN12 and many parts are interchangeable.
