Anyone here run Borla mufflers in the stock location? I've listened to hundreds of videos trying to figure out what to run. Most everything is either too muffled sounding, or very raspy and cracks like the newer mustang guys like. Afraid I don't care much for many of the newer mustang subs that are popular.

I like the sound of flowmaster 40 series, but they do start robbing power above 6k rpm. I love Corsa, but I'm not about to spend $700 for a pair of mufflers. I think I'm leaning towards the ProXS over Magnaflow right now. The Mags sound a bit "tight" to me, if that makes sense. I loved them on my V6 Malibu, tho, so I don't know.

And then, anyone running either of these in the stock location versus a mid mount dual in dual out?

    Sounds nice!
    Thank you.

This is with Kooks mid-length headers, 2.5" pipes and an X-Pipe in the middle. The X-pipe that I have is a custom piece but Magnaflow makes a nice X-Pipe that is better than the one that I have. Not home right now to get you some pictures, but if you dig around over at TSTSNBN there should be some pix of my set-up over there.

But yeah, my vote is for the Borla's too.

I have a stock style Y-pipe and a custom catback with Borla ProXS in the stock locations. I like how they sound. Decent rumble at idle. You can hear them, but they aren't overly loud. My wife drive's the car so I would hear about it if they were. We took it on a 12 hour round trip a few weeks ago and no loud annoying drone. My biggest reason for choosing the Borla was their 300 series stainless construction. Are the Magnaflows stainless?

    Yes, both are stainless.

I say both. Get the Magnaflow dual-in/out with built in X-pipe as a mid-mount, then a pair of the Borla ProXS out back. That combo makes for a very nice sounding exhaust, but not too loud.
Borla also makes an "X" dual in/out. I already have an X pipe coming with my trubends. Thinking I'll do the 2 rear and then decide on adding the center one later if it's too loud.

I have the truebends X-pipe also, which is basically a homemade piece. Unless they've improved it since I got mine I recommend getting the Magnaflow dual-in/out with built in X-pipe recommended above by MadMikey or the Borla X.

I have the Magna dual in out and the shorter mufflers in the back. I love it. Not too loud and I get comments all the time on the sound of the car.

I really like magnaflow, super smooth at idle and cruising but really wake up when you get on it. Either one pretty much sounds the same so dealers choice at that point.

They do sound different depending on application, older mustangs had the muffler under the car with tails pipes the rest of the way. Anything new pretty much has the mufflers out back and are “dumping” on the rear of the car.

I have my eye in these, they are super cheap in rock auto and I really want dual tips out back. Only thing is they are 409 stainless.

Or ... you could run one of these out the hood ...

I recently discovered this guy's channel and I think he lives close to me in North Carolina. I'm going to try to track him down and say hello.

409 SS will last you forever in California. Heck aluminized steel will probably last forever in California.

Agreed. 409 develops a layer of surface rust but it would take a hell of a long time to actually rust through even here in Chicago

I should note that I will be without cats...and 1 3/4" primary 3" collector long-tubes necked down to 2.5" duals.

Why not just straight pipe it after whatever X-Pipe you end up going with?

Have the tips go out straight out just below the bumper like a Marauder instead of downwards like ours currently do.

No cats, and just an X pipe would be insane on a 500hp SBF. Literally think racecar.

Now, if you meant an x style muffler, that has crossed my mind. I'm a bit concerned it would be too loud

Depends on your definition/tolerance is of/for loud, I didn’t think my 2V with the 2.25” midmount magnaflow and no cats was any louder than MN12s or Mustangs with two separate mufflers.

I loved my flowmaster kits SC style tips, so I have a soft spot for the turned down and out look, with the mufflers hidden. Obviously I can do that without mufflers in that location, but it's what I'm used to.

Maybe I'll try a mid mount dual in/out and add other mufflers if it's too much.
