So, have you found folks recently to be unnecessarily antagonistic/entitled ("main character syndrome")?
I get that for a while, people weren't interacting outside of their families/bubbles and this caused a lot of people to give less of a fuck about others. But for the past two years, even in the Bay Area, CA (which isolated far longer than other states), things have gone back more to normal.

Now, I'm not talking about drivers doing crazy shit like whipping around you at a 4-way stop to run the stopsign (like they were cosplaying GTA) or dumbasses who think its a brilliant idea to surround uber eats drivers and intimidate them as a youtube "prank" and are surprised when they are shot by said uber eats driver, I'm talking about more simple human interactions. People are just goddamn rude sometimes.

I was shopping at the farmers market yesterday morning and walked up to buy some mushrooms (trumpet, not recreational). A guy off to the side loudly proclaims "DID YOU KNOW THERE WAS A LINE HERE?". I said "no", stepped back from mushroom lady's table, and said, "please order." There was noone else behind him in this "alleged line" so I figured he didn't know what he wanted yet. He said, no, he'll come back, he's got something else to buy first and proceeds to fuck off.... leaving me and the mushroom lady perplexed enough for her to apologize. If he wasn't going to buy mushrooms, why was he in the "line" in the first place?

Now, I'm all about being assertive and enforcing lines/queues. Its only civil and benefits society. However, I didn't give him any shit and I immediately "rolled over" -- so it seemed like he wanted to be unnecessarily confrontational -- over mushrooms at a goddamned farmers market on a nice Saturday morning. Its not like this was the last plane out of Kabul or even Taylor Swift tickets. Maybe this was a racial thing? I dunno.

Anyone else notice weird, self involved behavior like this recently? Like people are acting out because they can (and noone is restraining them.)

Yes; it's becoming widespread. There are no adults anymore, only entitled assholes, fucking it up for all of us.
These same types want to shut down the government, so they can hand Trumps buddy Putin a win in Ukraine; It's disgusting.

Yeah, lots of entitlement. My wife doesn't want me confronting or saying anything about/to them though because she's terrified one of them is nuts enough to be both packing heat and willing to use it on me for telling them they're being a jerk. Scary thing is she's not (always) wrong...

Oh, I don't skimp on PPE at all even when welding at home, I always wear a 3M 7075 or 6502QL mask with 2297 pancake filters, whether it be while grinding or welding.

If you want to weld all day, I say go for it. The money is very good and it's a highly sought after skill. I purposefully did not pursue the welding certificate in my trade ( pipe fitter / steam fitter ) and fell into the Foreman position, my pay is on average 10% higher than the journeyman welder. When I do a job with weld pipe ( anything 3" and larger unless called for ), I figure out the cut sheet lengths, order weld fittings, flanges, Olets and other materials - then I tell my apprentice to cut and bevel pipe and hand my cut sheet to the welder. It's a no brainer job, the welder does what I tell them to do. 😉

I totally agree that often it's better to hold your tongue nowadays. I am curious if any of you folks have other specific examples where people's behavior simply didn't make any sense. I guess looking at things externally, this guy could have felt that I was being entitled person by walking straight up to the mushroom lady. However, when confronted I immediately rolled over politely so his reaction so odd.

Yeah, everybody is fucking crazy these days. 🤪

Tell you what. I'm lucky. I run my own auto repair service. I do everything by appointment and personal visit. And I only take referrals. Once in awhile I fire a customer or potential customer. But in general eveyrone I deal with are all good decent people. And they don't want to mess up our relationship. So they don't refer the kooks they know!
So I'm lucky that I don't run into the weirdos that much. And I stay far away from the Las Vegas Strip :zpuke:
But odd people are everywhere.. I mean there is this admin guy at this other forum I used to hang out on...

Only time I had an instance of behavior being "odd" was when some dude walked into AutoZone with his package out. Then he asked where the exhaust pipes were.

He left before the cops arrived.
Do you think he was looking for a specific size Chrome tip or was the shopping trip completely unrelated with his wardrobe state?

It's not unsurprising to see someone naked San Francisco despite the weather. My wife commented that she saw a dude in our neighborhood which is pretty unusual considering it's more family oriented and a little farther from the Castro. I told her that I actually prefer when the crazies walk around naked... less places to hide weapons in case they get stabby.

I found one of those assholes yesterday (September 30)at the ATM! Long story short, he apparently was trying to put cash in his account to pay a bill that was due by the end of the month, and he decided to show up on the last day of the month, right when the bank was closing, can’t remember the pin for his card, and is MFing the machine, the bank, the bank employees, and pretty much blaming everyone and everything except his own incompetence and poor planning, and as I was next in line at the ATM he was looking to me for sympathy about his situation. I just kept my mouth shut and waited him out, and for the record the machine worked just fine when I used it a few moments after it supposedly screwed up his whole account!

On that note, screw the phone companies for putting my billing cycle in the middle of the month. Its the only reason Ive been late on some payments. Modern tech pisses me off pretty often, but boy am I glad that I dont have to pay bills through phone or mail

You could set your phone bill to be paid automatically by your credit card. You can then contact your credit card to set the due date to be something that works best with your paycheck schedule. Some credit cards, like the Wells Fargo cash back visa, have automatic phone protection as a side benefit provided you pay the entire phone bill with your credit card. That can save you 5 to 10 dollars per phone line if you actually paid for damage protection. The Wells Fargo credit card is pretty worthless aside from that so this is pretty much the only thing I charge on that credit card.

Middle of the month is best for me. All my bills are due around the end / beginning; so it's like getting a bonus check every month. 😉

You should be able to call and change your due date if that makes any difference. I tell my employees to set aside at least 3 months worth of wages just in case they get laid off, but if you're paycheck to paycheck ..

My gripe is with the car insurance company. They made me pay my 6 month premium in full ($3000) this last July. It went up 150% after the accident in January and they took away my monthly payments ( was $350/mo. Before ) .. so yeah I paid it up and now it's nice that I don't have to pay that $500 a month; until they hit me in January for my next 6 month renewal .. 🙄

Thats ridiculous. I'm sure if I wrecked the bird they'd give me like 2000 which is way less than Ive paid them

I pay $500 a month for all my cars.

That's liability, mind you.

Being an early 20s male with "sports cars" fucking sucks

I remember a bartender telling me that her sons veloster was a high cost because they called it a five door, and she was rather confused by that

Ouch .. you pay as much as I do ( 2 drivers, 1 accident, 2 Super sports full coverage, and an extra SUV ) .. 🤔

Maybe that hatchback model is more expensive to insure than the 3 door version.

My brand new Explorer ST with full coverage with 250 deductible, towing, rental car is $125 a month. My van is $75 for the same coverage. But I'm old now and have had the same two policy numbers for 30 years.

They classify your cars as sports cars? lol part of the reason I never graduated to a Mustang like many in the club over the years was the insurance for the Cougar with liability only was always cheap, my 4 door Focus is actually a couple bucks more a month than it now.

I'm contemplating it, but I have it kinda good right now where I'm at. If there's one thing I've learned in 44years, is that most everything in life is a set of compromises.

I pay $140 a month through Erie for $0 deductible full coverage on the Fusion and a Jetta GLI that we are about to sell. I pay Hagerty $42 a month for full coverage on the Thunderbird and another VW that we are sort-of restoring. The Edge is a company vehicle so it's not on my personal policy.

The Hagerty membership pays for itself because it has roadside coverage for any vehicle I own, not just the ones they insure.

Same crap happened here at the Hard Rock Hollywood, I go there at least once a week to play poker.

Dopes arguing about an incident in the Valet dropoff line, poor bastard shot dead over nothing. By an asshole with a gun.

I don’t think the bad behavior is really that new or more widespread than before Covid or 2016 or whenever, the ratio of assholes in the world I truly believe is flat in any given time in history, but the degree to which bad behavior is perpetrated seems to have escalated.

What used to be an uncalled for four letter word exclamation is now a drawn out verbal tirade, what used to be a honk and a finger is now brake checking weaving and other mad max stunts(sometimes with firearms), what used to be a fight with fists is now with knives or gunshots just like that one at the hard rock. I don’t encounter the scenarios that lead to rudeness or conflicts any more often than before but I’m not going to stick around to see them play out if they’re happening.

Luckily I’m such a nice polite guy, I never find myself in petty conflicts 😇

I was unfamiliar with this shooting at a hard Rock casino so I googled it .. and I'm not sure which one you are referring to. There was one just today in Florida where a driver pulling in shot a pedestrian. Earlier this summer, some other idiot shot a guy in a bar at the hard rock in South lake Tahoe.

I am putting out the Halloween stuff today. Does anyone else get caught up in this madness?

I just stick one of those colored lights that shine on the house out front. I never(rarely) have time for holiday decorations. Clearly that is a ME problem!

We usually do some decorating, though we skip it on years when we're unable to pass candy out (like this year). We don't go too crazy; aside from pumpkins it's typically some orange and purple lights on the porch, a plastic skeleton hanging in a tree by the street and some cobwebs in the shrubs.
