One of the idiots I worked with got nothing but dick pix, in some early photo sharing app, and your login loaded your local files from the server. WinXP, IIRC.
We had very expensive lab equipment (Oscilloscopes,Network analyzers, 20 GHz data acquisition crates, all tied to your login.
To access someones data, you logged into their area.
I was also the in-building computer guy.
I remember this old guy saying "I haven't seen anything like that since the AI lab at MIT in '70."
That ended easy data sharing. Maybe '99 or so.
