CV Replacement

And cold weather was fast approaching. It is here now, I don't think we hit 65, maybe 70 today. It's a bitch to crank on wrenches in the winter, damn hands crack, skin tears and just friken hate winter. I digress.
Is 65-70 cold there? I wouldn't complain about that!

For now its in the low 70's. And its not bad, but you do feel the cold after being in the 80's. It will keep dropping, 30's or lower at night, 50's in the day. It's high desert weather.

I hate that magic cube of death. I bought one of those caliper retract kits with LH and RH jackscrews years ago after fighting with that stupid cube thing on a couple of sticky rear calipers. Never again. One of the better tool investments I've made.

I bought one at the local parts store years ago when I did the rear brakes. Looks like they are available for really cheap (20$) now on Amazon. Surely made of best grade Chinesium, but not for non-shop use probably fine

Yep, O'Reilly's has them for $25, same kit. But as mentioned, it can be rented, no cost to you unless you don't return it. I do like the kit because it has the fitting for the discs that you can use a socket wrench instead of the small (very small) turning handle.

Now, my beef is with the asshole that rented it before me left the parts covered in brake dodo... very unsettling. I asked the clerk at O'Reilly's if I could have the address of the person that had it before me so I could go and shit on his tools and see how he likes it. I asked if they had a policy to return items the way you got them, she said no.

It's common curtesy to return something you borrow the way you got it. WTF is WRONG WITH PEOPLE these days????

Yes, I returned it looking like it hardly been used. It's the least I could do for the next person. People always thinking of themselves... no wonder we are in the mess we are in.

That's part of the reason why I just bought a kit off Amazon. It's a waste of time and money to drive to/from the parts store just to pick up the tool, and as you've seen... many times they're not in great shape. Now, if the tool in my garage is busted or covered in crud, I've only got one person I can blame!

LOL... I have an AutoZone about a rocks throw from my house. I consider it a privilage that it is so conveinet. I even bought me a new Ford hat yesterday while I was returning the piston compressor thingy....

But as Bill would say "I feel your pain." I was going to just buy the kit, but then I realized I am not doing any brakes for several years, so I will just rent the stupid tool.
