I had to look at it this way:I've always had an admiration for guys who can weld. Props for taking the leap to learn.
It would cost me at least $125 an hour for someone to weld up my pipes.
The guy that said it would cost $500 to update my exhaust gave me pipe to practice on, so that was a win / win.
The first welder I picked up weighed way to much to make welding practical, so I took it back (un-opened) and exchanged it for the Titanium I have now at about half the weight. I am not a young many anymore...
I have the arm chaps, leather gloves, lots of old 100% cotton shirts and good work bench, practice is easy.
I say, if you can spare $150+ for a welder and materials, get one, watch a lot of YouTube and self help vidoes and give it a try. Or, rent a welder from a rental place and try-before-you-buy (invest) in welding. I have already saved several hundered on the Cougar by learning to do it myself.
