welp ive ordered a set of strut rod bushings from scp, and tire shopping. im gonna sell my cheapo uhp tires, and find something closer to factory height. I was looking at Mastercraft Courser Quest All Season 235/50R17 96V Passenger Tire???

Im hoping to achieve a ride quality closer to stock and a lot less firm. Current tires are lexani lxuhp 235/45/17. im not filthy rich, so any budget tire recommendations would help me out a lot.

Also if i moved to a 235/55r17 would the uca bolt clear..?

Stock height was 26.9ish. 235/55/17 is 27.2. I think they would fit fine unless you have too much offset. 245/50/17 is 26.6. 225/55/17 is 26.7.

The original tires on my LX were Firestone FR480 and they had very poor grip in the turns, they couldn't hold the road in an interstate cloverleaf at the speed limit back in the day.

What is the load index of the old tires? I think 96-ish was the factory spec for them. Higher load index can affect ride quality. Maybe not a budget tire, but I'm planning to run Michelin Defender II's at 235/50R17 on the '97 in the spring. That is about the only tire I've run for the last 10-12 years. I have been very happy with them. I gave up on cheap tires a long time ago. Not worth the drop in quality.

that is probably where i went wrong, not only is it shorter than factory but it is 97w extra load. I kind of just impulse bought the tires because there was a deal on them, but way too short/ firm and ive gotten tired of it riding like a rock

for me these tires are the opposite, when the strut rod bushings arent exploding it grips the road pretty well even on some good bends. Theyre just rough and hard
