Keyless entry...how to find code?

Howdy. My car has keyless entry. I have no code. Before you say "look on the module in the trunk", that is the issue, I can't get in the trunk. I have no key and the button inside doesn't work. The button is good and there is voltage at the button.

My question is: Is there a way to find the code without access to the trunk?

I certainly hope so. I'm too old and large to crawl through the back seat!

Pick the lock or get a locksmith to make you a key.

Thanks, BUT, I don't know how to pick a lock and I can't believe you even suggest that I PAY Somebody! Besides it doesn't answer the question of "How do I find the code without access to the trunk?"

The code is generally printed on a sticker on one of the trunk hinges. On my 2006 Crown Vic, that sticker was missing. The Ford dealership connected the car to their diagnostics tool, et voilà, they had the code.

I doubt they would charge for that. The question is, which year is yours, and does this work on older model years? Calling the dealership should clear that up.

As you mentioned, crawling into the trunk is an option for the very skinny. Personally, I think this is the easiest way to get access to the trunk latch, assuming the trunk is empty. Just ask one of your smaller friends. I've done this once on an unusually clean junkyard car because I wanted the taillights.

Lastly...you could go on a hunt for the code. Some previous owners may have written it into the manual for example. Any 5-digit numbers anywhere?


I think the big thing to remember though is this:
If your trunk button in the console doesn't trigger the latch, then I think it's highly likely the keypad won't trigger it either.

Owners manuals always came with a plastic card that had the code on it. You may be able to have your dealer look it up with proof of ownership. YMMV.

Option B is get the trunk open. Lock picking is relatively easy, especially on a Ford.

I don't know for absoute but Forscan may reveal the code or it could be printed on the keyless entry module. I know the newer ford stuff has it on the body control module as I added door keypad to his '17 f150 XL. I used my inspection scope to see the back side so all I did was remove kick panel trim. On our old birds I think the keyless entry module is the same or early version.

Definitely wouldn’t as the keyless module does not communicate with the RKE module.
