OEM injector questions

The OEM fuel injectors have what appears to be a "cap" on the injecting end. When I was removing the intake side O-rings from mine, this cap came off. It didn't appear to break but I couldn't get them back on after the O-ring was off.

What is this "cap" and is it important? Can I use the injectors without it? I'm not where the engine is currently or I would post pictures. I will post some if needed.

I was just going to replace them until I looked up the cost. The cheapest I can find are just at $25 ea. Last time I bought a set (ages ago) the whole set was just over $60!

Thanks y'all. I appreciate your replies.

I thought I did a write-up on how you put those caps on....hmmmm

Note: if the cap is chipped or damaged, get a new one if you can. They are cheap on Amazon.

By the way, you may want to get the repair kit with the seals, pintle caps and filters. Yes, there is a filter inside the end of the injector.

Had no idea there was a filter. I have new old stock O-rings. I have a spare used injector set. I'll check on a repair kit, thank you!

I never checked for a write-up...

I switched the jeep YJ to the EV6 for that reason, still need to get that on the road. :bangwall:

I thought there a write up on how to clean these also. At least a recent discussion.

I second rebuild kit & raise you some carb cleaner.

Most of the injector discussion is on the second page.
