Came out of the work midday today and my mirror is on the seat. The metal mount fell off the windshield, no sticky anymore.
Any tips or pointers to glue it back up?

Mark the location of the residue glue with masking tape on the outside of the windshield so you know where to reattach the metal tab. Clean the old residual glue off of the inside of the windshield really well. They sell rearview mirror adhesive kits in the parts stores. I've had pretty good luck with them.

My car had the auto dimming mirror and auto high beam dimmer, so it was pretty heavy and would break off every couple of years. I finally got tired of it and put in the lightest aftermarket mirror from Auto Zone, but it kept falling off as well. I got one from Amazon that attaches with a suction cup. It works loose after about a week but I just remove it and reattach, no fussing with glue and only takes a few seconds. I miss the auto dim though.

This is the first time I’ve ever had one fall off. I glued it back and will hang the mirror back up in the morning when I leave for work.

I had a buddy with a mustang who found a loose windshield at a swap meet, andit sat in his room for a while as he fixed the body. At some point he rainexed it. After he paid another guy to put it in, he closed the door, and the rearview fell off, and the windshield popped out, fell off the hood, and shattered, lol.

And that ladies and gentlemen is why you don’t slam doors.

In my case all is well. I used permeated rear view mirror glue, let is sit overnight and placed the mirror back in the am. Still hanging.

So mine in my SC would fall off alot using the rear view mirror glue because the hot ass sun and lots of bass from subwolfers aren't a good mix. So I put it back on last time with clear epoxy that was a few years ago still holding on... Now to get the button off (if I ever wanted to) would most likely break thr windshield but it's on there....

That’s what I’ve always heard with the glues, the consumer grade stuff is very nerfed, and not near as long lasting as what the manufacturers and glass installers use

Yeah the sun heats up the glue and makes it soft then add some bass from a couple of hard hitting 12s and mirror comes off. I've herd you can put a sticker on the outside of the glass and supposedly that will help the glue from warming up as much but personally I don't like stickers on cars very often.

Mine has come off several times, I've found that the parts store glues just don't last. If you go to an auto glass shop they usually reapply the button for free (at least the glass pro by me does) and it usually lasts a couple years. I've been meaning to do what my buddy did, he got a different mirror completely. His is now mounted to the roof and hasn't had an issue in over 15 years, even when his stereo was hitting 156db+...

I wish Ford made them roof mounted in the first place, the glued on button reeks of cheap beancounters ideas
