The Unofficial "Ask a Stupid Question" Thread

But I can't see that unless I turn my phone sideways.

Oh, that part lol. Yeah, it might be. I think it has to do with how much you can "see" in portrait vs landscape mode.

In landscape mode, you are able to see the forum layout effectively the same as you would on a PC / Laptop, which in turn allows you to see everything.

After going with my homie to get his ride tuned, and getting the advice of switching to flex fuel. It made me look into it. I found this kit that is compatible with the sn95 4.6 mustangs.

My question is has anybody ever tried something like this? Power wise on boosted engine is a huge bonus not to mention the safety factor of the fuel.

PLUS, 91 in my area is currently $6.30, e85 is literally at the station 2 blocks from my house and it’s about $3.00. Yrs it burns faster, but it’ll STILL be cheaper than 91.

That looks about as functionally effective as one of those old resistor in a box “chips” for 100x the price.

The factory EEC can be flashed to run E85, without a piggybacked controller tricking it via shoddy looking wiring and hoses and clamps that are clearly subpar for EFI fuel pressures

Ya, just jump up to 60-72 lb/ hr injectors and a 460lph pump and get her tuned.

While there, maybe a smaller pulley😁

The stock computer can do that, but it’ll ONLY be an E85 tune right? This kit supposedly measures the the octane and adjust appropriately. Why do you say this kit sucks ass??

That’s what I kinda wanting to do, the 60’s are within reason for me, but now sure about how to go about it out a bigger fuel pump. Are the stock lines able to handle that scandle??

Actually no you can store 3 different tunes into an Xcal type programmer and programmable flip chips can switch between as many as well.

This device sucks ass because as far as I can tell is using the outputs of the existing PCM but altering them to account for the fuel type, which leaves all sorts of critical tuning parameters alterable within the PCM like delay, duty cycle etc. compromised. Not to mention the presentation of the kit itself, the universal wiring and hoses will look abysmal and I’m still pondering what exactly some of it connects to and how it electronically switches between fuel types with bated cringe.

Yes. Just ask guys like @ trunk monkey who is making ~500 horsepower on E85 with AFAIK stock 5/16” hardlines

Going to bigger lines actually increases stress on the fp during launches on the dragstrip. There'a a heavier column on fuel being accellerated against fp pressure. That effect in the saturn V was Tons of pressure, and was used, as they wanted the fuel to go that way.
Iagree with Matt. That kit is BS; If it did what it says, you'd need an eec box with it. You'd save a lot of cash getting an xcal and prp.
To use E85, you do need double the injector size; guys in the 70's converted cars and bikes over to ethanol. A tank of gas wouldn't take a car to the next town (12mpg becomes 6 mpg) There's a lot to consider.

I'm on -6AN lines which are basically the same as 5/16" lines. I asked Trunk Monkey when I spec'd mine, so that I could switch to E85 if I wanted.

The only thing I don’t like about the tuner is you NEED to either have e85 or 91, no in between. On top of that e85 is almost never 100% e85 haha so if your tuning with perfect E and get a bad batch you just blew your shit up. Another thing I don’t like about the hand held is having to manually switch, wait til it uploads then finally drive it. This kit SUPPOSEDLY promises an easy way to just pump E and let the system figure out the content and go from there. So either have half E half 91 or vice verse. I do agree tho where tf is it connecting to and how tf is it ACTUALLY doing the tuning.

Either way it’s just a question, or really gonna try it any time soon. As I doubt the stock fuel lines can handle E am I correct?

what size are the stock lines?? For this job I’d need to upgrade atleast the type of hose, I don’t the stock hose will handle the E

5/16". Pretty easy to put new ptfe lines by the pump and to the regulator from the stock hard lines.

My 2 cents, my Cougar runs e85, changed the fuel pump, 60lb injectors, 80mm maf, 75mm throttle body and a tune.

Plus all the other go fast goodies.

It has been E85 for17 years.

Storing summer blend for winter use is up to you. I drag race the Cougar.

It takes as much time to flash the PCM as it does to fill up the tank.

The thing with this system is you still need a flash for the base tune, in addition to still needing bigger injectors and fuel pump, it’s not a standalone controller, I don’t know exactly how it senses E85 vs conventional fuel which may well be clever, but I can tell what isn’t so clever is all it is doing is altering injector flow rates by altering the outputted signal from the factory PCM which is the exact wrong way to tune EFI.

Several sets of injectors came up for sale a few years ago, and while cleaning them I found that ALL of them were contaminated with black goo;
It's dissolved rubber from our lines, which were not intended for alcohol. The worst ones were the 39 pounders, from a car running e85. If I were running e85, I would replace the lines.
30 years on the ones on lazarus, there was some crap, but they cleaned up easily.

Ok...did I make a stupid mistake?

The other day, I washed my car. I always you this battery powered pressure washer gun that we have.

Today, I discovered several paint chips on the left side of the car. They're definitely new. Could the water gun have caused this?

The chips are only on the left side. One on the fender, two on the door, and several below the rear side window. I'm pretty upset; I fear these chips may grow.

I can't pinpoint any other event causing this. No hail, no sandstorm, no rock throwing truck passing me. Though it may have happened without me taking notice. Damn.

It might have. Any chance the paint may have been touched up by a previous owner and the pressure washer found the weak spots in the paint?

I highly doubt that the pressure washer did that, the up close picture looks like the car was repainted at one point.
(I spent many years doing autobody)

I would just get a tube of touch up and fix the chips for now.
