What did you do with your Thunderbird Today?

No, its was patched away in covid and remains optional indefinitely. It's not horrible. They fill up your car and compliment it, then you leave and say thank you...

The only annoyance Ive ever had was the guy smacking the back like it was a big dog

Its a win win so nobody is happy

Everyone gets something, nobody gets everything. This is how it should be.

And I'll leave it at that.

am I wrong about another loony west coast state gas policy?

We're not all loony out here! And heck, some of it is is the voters that shoot ourselves in the foot!

Do you pay less per gallon of it's self-service fuel ups?

No but I think there were/are cheaper self-service only stations peppered around catering for freight trucks

Changed the oil >:( Looked at my maintenance chart and realized I need to replace the air and fuel filters. Sized up the work that will need to be done for the suspension upgrades if my parts ever get here.

That price sucks though...I just paid $3.65 for 93 which you don't even have available (my fusion has a 93 tune so I have to run it)...

Cougar: I installed new LED headlights. I also put in LED taillights, but they would stay on very dim and blinked fast. So I went back to incandescent in the rear.

You need an LED friendly flasher which you can get at any parts store for about $12.

You also need at least one bulb (or resistor?) in that circuit for that small current, otherwise you lose cruise control. I have a small bulb in the trunk for that purpose.

I don't use the app but the antequated m.fuelly.com website, it works fine to input fuel-ups on the go. The trick is you have to go back to m.fuelly.com after you log in because it redirects you back to the "new" version of the webpage after you sign in, which isn't what I want.

I went back to incandescents as well. I had a load box with just little 194s in it to fool the cruise and stock flasher but it’s so silly to have to add bulbs or resistors and an electronic flasher for “efficient” “long lasting” LEDs to actually work properly.

The instant blink was kind of novel for a while but now that every car on the road has them I kind of miss the antiquated but effective look of stock incandescents… and some brands like Mazda now even program their LEDs to fade out like incandescents 🙄

Some reference to the gas prices discussion. I filled up the tank today, here's a snip of the receipt:
1758390826586.png

Deciphered:
- Fuel quality "BE 98 E5" -> RON 98 / AKI 92.5, contains 0-5% ethanol (I think this is pretty close to "premium" fuel in US, although not sure if it contains any ethanol)
- 34.20 liters -> 9.03 US gallons
- 1.765 EUR per liter -> $2.07 USD per liter (on today's exchange rate) -> $7.57 USD per US gallon

VAT is 25.50%, and VAT0% would be 47.86€.

This is pretty standard pricing around here. Another available fuel option would've been 95E10, i.e. RON 95 / AKI 90 and max. 10% ethanol content. That would've cost $7,42 USD per gallon.

With these prices the 1.0 EcoBoost engine doesn't feel that bad of an option anymore :p

Interesting. I might try it, but the reviews from only the past year are mostly 1 star. Seems like there are many issues at least on the Android side of things.

I don't have any issues with mine, and I'm on Android myself.

$7.57/gal, holy shit man!

But US gallon is 3.8L, so it's still a bit more than hour calculation bringing it to $7.86/gal. There would be a revolt here with those prices. And I'm saying that as a Californian who already pays one of the highest prices for fuel here in the US, lol.

I finally got my turn signal working, huge thanks to you all for helping me diagnose it and extra special thanks to @1997ThunderbirdLXV6 for suggesting the signal flasher as so far that seems to have been the issue, I got it installed this morning and its working so far, now pretty soon its getting washed for the first and last time this year then its back into storage, I will get much more time behind the wheel next season hopefully.

Yeah about 60% of the gas price is different sorts of tax (the only tax listed in the receipt is the VAT, but there are others). Taxing the gas is an easy money-making machine for the state, as people have to buy gas no matter of the price really.

Going off-topic, but in the other hand, electricity can be really affordable here. For instance, today's spot price averages to 1.3c/kwh, due to windy weather. And if you don't fancy the varying price of the spot-energy, you could get static priced contracts for around 8-10c/kwh. This makes electric cars much more viable from driving cost point of view.

That's pretty comparable to what I remember seeing while we were in the UK this spring, about 1.80/L (which works out to about $2.43 or $9.23/Gal). Diesel was about the same price, and of course they use less L/100km than gasoline due to the energy density. No wonder cars and engines are generally smaller, and diesels are so popular. :)

Went to jy and snatched the RR knuckle & hub. These birds don't show up often around here and then they only give a month before they crushed. I also snagged the ccrm, the coolant bottle(this one had the float and sensor - yaaa!) , bottom half of air filter box as mine has cracked, and the front windshield top trim (no rubber) and the fomoco cap as I have not found a good motored one yet. $28 out the door so I'm happy. Oh funny thing was the gauge surround was only broken at steering column. Mine is in a Gillian pieces so u thought hey if I can ease it out I could make a form and make report. Almost had it and it caught on the turn signal and POOF! 20 pieces in the floorboard. I was like thank God that wasn't a grenade. Damn.

How do they look? I have old ass tires on the mark and never drive it in the rain. I bet they'll do the look some big favors.

Anyone ever paint white on the font? Maybe I should practice on the ones that will get binned

Don’t. It turns brown far quicker than it takes to meticulously paint them and looks terrible when they do. Real RWL tires the white letters are literally the rubber itself and there are overlays that can work if you really wanted them. Personally I think lettered tires look gaudy on lower profile tires, I’ve even grown to dislike it if the brand doesn’t have cache(cooper cobra is so cheesy to me it’s firmly black sidewall out)

I continued removing front right suspension parts. The only thing left is the front strut rod nut, but I need more tools.

Normally, I'd save beer drinking for when the job is finished, but I don't have the tools required to remove the front strut rod bushings without help. So cheers!View attachment 14811

That helps me find a way to misuse tools I do have to get the job done 😝

…Like a bench vice to grip the nut bolted to a 2x4….
