1997 4.6l Ford TBird
Country flag
The car is a 1997 TBird 4.6l all stock.

Having an intermittent engine turns over but no start issue. Checked for spark then fuel pressure first. The spark is working fine but there is zero fuel pressure at the Schroeder valve on the fuel rail. Did a voltage check at the Inertia Fuel Shutoff switch in the trunk and its reading roughly 6.5 volts. Pretty sure the fuel pump needs 12 volts to work.

Is it possible the fuel pump relay in the CCRM is getting worn out and sending half voltage to the IFS? I can feel and hear the relay in the CCRM working when holding it. This car has a lot of mileage on it(338000 miles)..

The battery is fully charged and turns the motor over easily.

luckily ccrms are easy to replace. Un- luckily they go for 50+ dollars on ebay. Not sure if thats normal but when i had to get one about 2 years ago i payed 80$ for one.

I had a very similar problem a few years ago, kinda asked about it on the other forum we dont mention, but MY issue was indeed the CCRM. Not an expensive or hard to replace part. I was a parts cannon back then and went straight for a new fuel pump, ECM, inertia switch, and probably more before even trying to diag correctly.

This is on the fitment page.
Useful information for which other cars we can scavenge one off.

I also bought a rebuilt ccrm when I first started on these cars, it was to deal with my air conditioning.
The ac worked with the new one, but the fuel pump would shut off whenever it felt like it, and I would have to turn it off and restart the car to keep going.
Next one was fine.

If anyone wants to send me a bad one, I'd be happy to make a repair video.

Update: Pulled off the connector going to Inertia switch in the trunk and measured 12 volts for roughly half a second then 6 volts and still had a no start..The Inertia switch ohm checked good.

The CCRM is fine and doing its job.

The fuel pump was intermittently working..put in a new one and no problems starting now for about a week..

Read my OP. When I first checked the voltage at the Inertia switch I thought it was supposed to get a constant 12 volts..not 12 volts for .5 seconds then drop down to 6 volts so that was my fault for not knowing how the system worked and blaming the CCRM when it was actually doing what its supposed to.

Repair instructions and pix, with parts list.
These are a version of the Bosch 40A relays I recommended for driving fans.
A member was kind enough to send me a bad one; I'll order some relays, and show how to change them.
If you don't have a Weller 250W iron, forget it, lol.

Mine’s seen better days but it works 😆

that's actually higher power than mine. Weller is pretty cool, you might write them and ask about parts. I have in years past, and refurbed mine.
There are some killer attachments. Hot knife does wonders.

Yeah it’s a beast of an iron, it’s from the 60s or 70s, my Grandpa gave it to me along with some other tools when he moved to a retirement home before he passed away. Only part of it that is actually is in rough shape is the plastic casing but the god knows how old duct tape has held it together just fine, plus I wouldn’t want to lose those original old school labels. I would like to find light bulbs for it though, they both still worked when I got it!
