Have the kids and/or impressionable women in your lives fallen for these stupid Labubu, Lafufu, Hachipupu, etc. dolls yet? I DGAF about these dolls but its interesting to see a) a Chinese company POPMART actually making it internationally for their design vs mfg capabilities and b) hear about how impressive they've gammified their product drops.
A fellow parent who likes these things described how much she enjoyed the loot dropping process: you click randomly on an icon during a drop to reserve "that" item for purchase and the website gives you hints as to what you might receive (mentions color variants). Kind of like feeling a lego baggie to guess what minifig is inside.
While I'm totally glad my kid doesn't want any of this plastic junk, I am curious to hear if this fad has hit where you live and if so, how long do you think this generation's Beanie Baby equivalent will last. Apparently demand has dropped from Summer 2025 because of increased production but a quick google search online shows that the most expensive of these ugly ass dolls is being bid up to $3600. For a doll that sell for $27-30 unopened.
The premium once commanded by Labubu collectibles is narrowing in secondary markets in China, signaling fading speculative demand as collectors grow cautious about the value of Asia’s most hyped designer toys.

As with any fad without any long lasting utility (these things dont really DO anything), any bets on how long this fad will last? Do you think it will make it through the Christmas season (and be THE toy all these kids want) OR the fervor die by Thanksgiving?
BTW, the first time I heard of these doll was when I read about this wealthy Chinese heiress who crashed her $1M+ Rolls Royce into some Mercedes this summer while drunk driving. Her RR dash was covered in rare versions of these dolls. Given how well she's been treated by the Australian Govt, she's suspected of being a child of one of the CCP elite. Crazy
