Draining and replacing coolant

There are two block drains on the 4.6, one’s where I put my coolant gauge sensor in place of

The bank 1 one is behind the motor mount bracket(way to go engineers  )

Revisiting this right now.

Where on the block is it exactly? I'm looking at my Pearl T-Bird for reference but can't find it.

I see your coolant sensor thing is near the starter, but I don't see it on mine? Maybe I'm just not looking up enough (I don't want to get my shirt dirty)?

It's about 2" above the pan; there is one on each side, toward the back. IIRC, it's an 8mm allen plug. look under the motor mount, on the pass side. Drivers side is easy to see.

Im under my Pearl Bird to get a better visual since it's all taken apart right now, and I see the freeze plugs but not the hex bolts freeze plugs. Could it be different?

Passenger side: both seen easily here. The one on the left is partially covered up on the left

Driver side: it's harder to see, but there are two in this picture. One behind the starter and the other to the right of the little red nub of the starter.

NOT the freeze plug. The drain is a ~10mm plug, threaded into the block. Look at Matts pic.

50/50 prestone is as expensive as 100%; 1 gallon of full strength coolant, and 3 gallons of water is much cheaper, and is ~ 30%, more water cools better. In CA you're unlikely to freeze. You northern guys, I'd go 50/50 or 100%.

It's in your 2nd pic; I'm wrong about the allen, thats the oil galley plugs. It's a 10mm bolt just above the wire loom in #2 pic.

No!!! That is a cross bolt for a main cap, do not remove that! The side the starter is on isn’t accessible at all, it’s underneath the motor mount bracket in the V of the engine(there aren’t coolant passages in the skirt of the block)

Circle where it's at in my pictures, please.

I have not seen a hex bolt anywhere.

Every 3 years; it's not too bad. I don't do it for the coolant, but for the acidic crap that forms from the additives breaking down.
I change the oil at the same time, so I'm under there already.

On my Teksid, the block drains are behind the motor mounts- PITA to get to.
Later blocks have the block drains located at the front left/rear right of the block.
Or, front right/rear left, i forget.
Anyways, later blocks are staggered so that they are not behind the motor mounts and easier to access.
