I was just researching options for transmissions if I happened to go to a manual in the '97. One obstacle in going with a later model transmission is the incompatibility of the OSS with the factory speedometer. I know the Dallas Mustang Speedcal Extended Range and something from Ford Motorsports used to be options, but it looks like those have been out of production for many years. I was just curious if anyone was running a later model transmission and what they did to get the stock speedometer in the car to work properly.

Good to know on both of those and they are somewhat readily available and they have the range to handle the OSS to VSS conversion. Mikey, I noticed in the Dakota description it says not for ABS systems. Is the ABS in your truck inactive then?

It wouldn’t matter if you did or didn’t have ABS using it to convert the speedometer to read right, the output simulates the VSS signal not only to the speedometer, but the ABS, EEC, EVO and cruise.

Perhaps that disclaimer is to discourage usage in-line of the ABS wheel speed sensors? Otherwise it makes no sense

No, it doesn’t affect the ABS. You are modifying the signal coming out of the trans. I think what that means is you can’t use it to modify the wheel speed signals.
