LKQ Durham. This car is gorgeous, why would anyone scrap it? Shoot why would LKQ not sell it?

Agreed, that car looks too good to be scrapped. Are you headed there? If not, I'd be tempted to go down and pick up some parts...

...just don't want to step on your toes since you saw it first, @Kidd-7

Meanwhile, I just realized that my LKQ alerts now go into my junk mail folder. Anyone signed up for alerts, you may want to check your emails.

Ok, so on second thought, I think I shouldn't risk it. The easily saleable parts look questionable. I think I'm seeing a crack in the cluster surround, and the rubber on the rear roof trim is missing. Steering wheel has a cover on it, which usually messes up the leather.

I'd be curious about the history of this car. Paint and lighting fixtures look unfaded, yet the dash top is cracked. Interior seems very clean though.

I'm sure there are tons of great parts on it for someone local. I just don't want to spend a full day for stuff I might not be able to sell. It probably has an intact header panel, too.

I need those center caps! I wonder if it has all 4.

ive scrapped one full of rust, but yea even the paint there looks good. Id be curious what the frame underneath looks like because i was about to buy a white tbird that looked perfect on the outside but had like half a rear subframe XD

The junkyards here make it part of their business to sell cars. But they pick which ones they sell, and it's only a small number of cars out front, usually in the $1,500 range and needing more work. Cars out on the field are not for sale.

I feel like I am on the leading edge of identifying rusty cars. I do not think that car is rusty based on the condition of the shock towers. I can't see the rockers under the rear side windows very well, but that thing looks clean to me. Such a shame.

Agreed there’s an undercarriage pic, there’s not even chipped paint from the frame rail let alone rust.

There’s no law that forbids it, you’ll get a partly dismantled car with a salvage title for sure but it’s purely business policy in which there are ways to grease the wheels.

The mom&pop yards that are unfortunately disappearing around here would sell you the car, no question, I was introduced to the world of junkyarding in high school when a friends brother bought a MR2 from one of the yards for like $800. Brought his dad’s truck a trailer ratchet straps and brought it home. I think with enough persistence and getting past the cashiers in heirachy it can be done, I just couldn’t be bothered in the few times I inquired

Recent exhaust work on it as well. Think the front shocks are fairly new, or what are the stickers on the top of them? I do almost think the passenger quarter and possibly door have been repainted as they look orange peeled or milky. It's possible that's the cloudy day, too.

Would be interesting to see in person.

Here, they yank the engines and cut off the cats and gas tank, unless it's perfect.

They’ll cut the cats off and punch a hole in the tank but those are easy and cheap to replace relative to a good body, especially if it’s in a color you really like

I was scrambling to find pics in light of this but seemed to have lost most annoyingly, but the first truly modded MN12 I spent time around was Bryan Millers in that color, the Cobra wheels, SC swapped interior, cammed Explorer motor, true duals(which found their way onto my car after its part out) really hooked me into these cars. This is the only pic I could find I took, with my car in very very stock form behind it. Might well be 20 years ago

Have you or anyone started picking this car over yet? Have you found out if it runs or why it’s been scrapped? Is it a V8?

Can the car be bought outright?
