Here's some trivia for all the wood trim enthusiasts out there!
Genuine wood trim is made by cutting extremely thin slices of wood and then applying them to backing panels with an adhesive. 90% of the time, those panels are aluminum, but occasionally you see plastic or layered wood.
Now look closely at this piece, and you'll notice something unusual (apart from the fact that it's a Navigator piece in a Thunderbird):
Yes, the grain shows a mirror image:
In this case, that's a complete coincidence. Two sheets from the same cut of wood were used next to each other.
The interesting thing, if you will humor my geek within, is that this is actually done
intentionally elsewhere in the automotive world: Rolls-Royce and Bentley specifically utilize adjoining cuts of wood to create a mirror image grain on their dash boards, such as this:
