Post a picture you took today

So on the vin swap thing, years ago I worked for Allstate Insurance, and ran into a VIN issue like that. What happened is the guy and his wife had matching Mercedes S-classes that they bought at the same time from the same dealer. Well when the plates came in, somehow they got switched and put on the wrong cars. Also each policy had a 4-car limit, and each car was on a different policy, so there was no immediate indication that he had 2 of them to check the vin. A year or so later, one car gets hit and totaled. The cop never checked the vin. The body shop never checked the vin. The adjuster who went out took pictures of the vin, but obviously never compared them to what was on file. The car was declared totaled, and the title branded as a salvage and transferred to the insurance company’s name and the we paid off the loan on the car. It wasn’t until the car was going up for auction that Copart called me and said the vin didn’t match. My immediate thought was fraud, but after some investigation, I found the other policy with the other car that matched the vin we had declared totaled. I don’t know what the final resolution was, but I’m sure it was a shit-show trying to get all that straightened out! So moral of the story, you can probably get away with it for quite a while, but when it goes wrong, it’s going to go very wrong.

Meanwhile, I'm thinking why the hell would anyone want the exact same car as their spouse? Ignoring that I don't find having everything matching to be cute, how many times are you going to get into the wrong car because you've eliminated the most obvious visual cues to distinguish them?

On second read, I am assuming that "matching" means color as well, because if that got missed by all of the parties involved, we've got several people who need to get their eyes checked.

Yes, both were black S-classes of the same year. I want to say this was around 2011 or 2012, so the cars would have been 2010s or 2011s. I don’t know whether they had different wheels or interiors or trim packages or anything like that.

At one point, my boss' parents both had matching RX350s. One was silver and the other was grey. They got to the point where they just kept both keys in their pocket and drove whichever one wasn't blocked in.

That did not last long before one of them got a different model.

AC at the office went kaput, there's a gas leak at the house on my side of the meter, AND we missed trash day because the truck ran two hours early.

Happy Wednesday.

And yes I know that gas piping is FUBAR and nowhere close to being code compliant. The copper line is capped inside and going to a fireplace insert that I removed last year. The previous owners of the house were supposed to replace it before closing but couldn't, so they gave us a credit instead.
