Post a picture you took today

True west coast blessing. I can't do as well in my kitchen, and the prices are the best

Ya know it’s bad enough every other car on the road has thanklessly copied the sequential taillights of the 65 Thunderbird and 67 Cougar, but apparently Infiniti is now copying the Mercury’s 80s-90s laser stripe taillights

Exactly Greta ThunderBirg!

Was retipping my soldering irons today and decided to semi-restore the old beast

Not perfect but not bad for 50 years old!

To my surprise most of the plastic was still under the layers of duct tape holding it together, so I just glued it together like a jigsaw puzzle and smeared a layer of epoxy on the inside cracks to reenforce. Also turned out there was a broken wire inside going to the switch, soldered it back on with my other iron and now it’s dual heat again!

I even ordered new bulbs for it 😆

Nice restore!

I have a similar one, but I rarely use it. I use my weller temp controlled soldering iron for most stuff. But it's great for recapping stuff.
IIRC, you can buy a new case for it.
They cut plastic like butter.
These are apparently still made; these were first made in 1946.

Finally got the front cover off to reveal 385k miles of oil bath. Waiting on the melling pump to arrive to start changing out the guides and ten

Meh. I'm not sick of sequential turn signals AT ALL. And seeing them on every single new car makes them so unique!

Sorry this happened. I'm guessing the airbags didn't deploy? I have seen countless MN12s in junkyards with this level of damage and deployed airbags; they seem extremely sensitive.

I was going around a curve in the rain and there was a car behind someone who was turning.

Do you have ABS? Did you skid?
I don't have ABS, and it does occasionally worry me...

I forgot how big these 70s Cougars were. I almost bought a 74 but in my head I think of it as MN12 sized… no way 😆

If it makes you feel better the ABS system our cars have is pretty meh. I’ve certainly put it to the test at my youngest and dumbest through the terriblist of Chicagoland weather, and while I managed to not crash into anything there’s not a close call I can think of where the ABS helped, in fact there are a few it kicked in actively made worse or at least more stressful than necessary.

All season tires?

As annoying as this is, I like to take the approach that it could have been much worse. The parts you need will be reasonably easy to get (header panels can be found with a little patience). Hopefully it'll be back in one piece soon.

I actually have the other car. I have to decide what to do because I am so close to getting that car on the road, but this car is finished and drivable now so I need to make a decision on whether I should look for new parts or use what I already have.

I have front fenders, but getting them to Indiana is probably pretty ridiculous.

Does it run ok?

Will the other car get a repaint? If so, use those parts. Otherwise, I'd prefer other parts for this car.

What do you mean because I am planning on repainting the other car.

Well, I meant that if the other car gets a repaint anyway, then it doesn't really matter if those pieces now get painted blue for this car, and then other pieces get painted silver for the other car whenever you find those pieces.

If you had not been planning on repainting the other car, then I would have suggested you keep those pieces their original silver, and get new pieces to paint blue for this car.

I hope I'm being logical here (?).

They are both getting painted but if I can find some pieces cheap within the next few days I am going to buy. If not I will have to move from there.
