Because I don’t know any better what’s a HCOL state?

High cost of living state.

Not that it matters but has anybody EVER gotten the front ABS sensors out of the spindle without completely destroying them? Because I sure haven’t! But the ones on my car looked so tantalizingly clean I delusionally thought they’d just slip right out.

Q: What's the cost of a gallon of milk where you guys live?

In my part of CA it's $3.59/gal at my preferred grocery store.

Almost $6 to $8 / gal .. depending on the brand ( organic, almond, etc ).

On that note - my contract renews and I'm getting another raise on July 1st .. that should offset this eggflation 🤭

An inch or so is good, with the shields on. too close, and you burn the carpet. :)
I did that w/ my '84 Mustang GT. I had a blown power valve and I drove to a shop to ask if they could listen to it and tell me why it stumbled. Started back out to the car (left runnin) and he laughed and said power valve w/o getting close as smoke was rolling out the passengers side window and you could see the cherry red cat underneath. Well a few minutes with a tire iron and that never happened again. Rebuilt that holley kept on smiling.

I've never removed a Ford wheel speed sensor on any car without destroying it. You are in good company.

Would you mind taking some measurements of the cable lengths and posting pictures of the connectors? I think similar year Crown Vic wheel speed sensors could be made to work on our cars.

What gets me with mine is they weren't even rusty, nor are the spindles! I’ve “extracted” these before in a similar manner from people’s cars I did today but I always thought it was severe corrosion related…. Why did Ford press fit these things AND use a 10mm bolt???? Awful design IMO, and I’m pretty certain they aren’t made anymore Ford nor aftermarket for these cars, so I actually feel kind of guilty for trashing them when somebody might have needed them.

Anyway the cable length from the sensor to the boot of the connector is 38-1/2”. The length of the connector+ boot is 3”

Edit, sorry I forgot pics but the connector is the same as the male type 4 pin connectors used on oxygen sensors (though surely with a different alignment prong). It just has a boot on the wire end to seal it rather than the weather pack grommet for the individual wires. It plus the grommet is exactly 3” long.

Couldn’t measure the sensor section itself for obvious reasons(they’re deep in the trash and super super mangled😆) but my memory is fresh enough to say from the cable to the end of the magnet is just about 2”

I don't know why they do that, but everyone I've ever worked on is like that. I know you don't need them, but I swear Crown Vic wheel speed sensors could be made to work on our cars with some wire length adjustments and they are readily available from the aftermarket.

Oh yeah, I absolutely bet that would work. At 31” you could make a shielded 7-8” extension jumper cable to make up the difference very easily.

Why not just cut it between the spindle and the first mounting bracket? Everything else stays in place and there is no need to make new mounting points.

Has anyone here used Valvoline Max Life ATF in a Honda 5-speed transmission? I am planning in advance and doing research and theres a ton of opinions about it, I have seen that it says its safe for use in the trannies that need ATF-Z1 and the more modern ATF-DW1 that replaces said z1 but there's no definitive answer, I know this is the "wrong" place to ask a question but I know some of you have hondas and your probably changing the transmission fluid yourself. I know that its not good for our T-birds but I figure with a more modern honda it might be better suited

I usually just run the DW1. I know a lot of people like the MaxLife. I've never used it so I can't offer any opinion on it. I always figured I'd just get the exact trans fluid it calls for. Yes, DW1 can replace the Z1. I've done it multiple times.

At every oil change for my Honda, I also do a single D&F and ATF filter change on my Honda. Fluid comes out cherry red every time and she shifts perfectly still.

Do you use Valvoline max life or the genuine Honda fluid? I appreciate the views and opinions and experiences

Minor snag in my project, does anyone know the Ford part number for the gasket that goes between the master cylinder and booster?(93-97 ABS/96-97 4 wheel disc) I went to see if I could find a large O ring to fit at the hardware store tonight but no dice. I have a solution I know will work(room temperature vulcanizing compound), buuut I’d like a less messy solution

I was able to pull them from my Town Car, but it was some work. Lot's of PB Blaster, patience and luck.

Can you get some rough cross section and ID or OD dimensions? McMaster sells square cross section O-Rings. It looks like maybe a .203" cross section, but could be metric.

Yeah, about that...

I've had Maxlife ATF in my Thunderbird for over 20,000 miles. Yes, opinions about that vary greatly here. If you look into the Panther community, you'll find a lot of Maxlife users.

Maxlife had a temporary marketing issue a few years back because the state of California forbid Valvoline to market it as equivalent to certain OEM fluids due to differences in viscosity. Valvoline's response was that, under operating conditions, Maxlife's viscosity is more stable than those OEM fluids', thereby matching their performance in real-world applications.

Long story short, after a lot of reading, I felt it was a good choice. Knock on wood, I won't be proven wrong.

I was using Valvoline MaxLife ATF in the cars until about 7 years ago. I stopped when I realized something, combined with the advice of Darrin (who built the trans now in the T-bird)...

If you read the back, it says it's a compatible replacement for Mercon LV (low viscosity) but does NOT list Mercon V; Mercon LV and Mercon V are not the same fluid and they are not interchangeable. LV is a thinner fluid designed for use in more modern transmissions.

To be fair, it hadn't shown any immediately adverse effects when I was using it. However, it was what was being used when the transmission I had in my 96 started to crap out, and was what was in the 97's OG trans when it lost reverse.
