My point exactly. That's why I'm having trouble imagining that such pressure can build up or even cause oil leaks, since there is an open pathway out.

I guess I could be convinced that the pathway out is too small to release pressure which built up very rapidly from blowby - if there is such a rapid build-up.

I imagine that crankcase pressure would fluctuate some, but to the extent that it causes oil leaks?

The issue is two fold, crankcase pressure without relief is compounding, even on the healthiest engine every cylinder has a small percentage of blowby per cycle that ends up in the crankcase, and when you add that up by the number of cylinders and RPM that pressure will rise. The open breather will be an escape path yes, but it’s like exhaling through a straw.

The other thing is windage, the rapidly moving pistons, rods and crank create a cloud of oil vapor inside the crankcase. Without PCV or worse yet a clogged one the pressures will take with them the suspended oil vapors through the paths of least resistance, the various gaskets (pan timing cover, main seals etc) are good for containing oil splash and vapors but not necessarily pressure. You can see this from PCV itself, crankcase oil vapors get sucked into the intake tract from it, which is why people often install inline catch cans/separators to keep oil out of the intake tract.
 
I dont know if this is a stupid question, but my wheels are ready for paint and I cannot decide what color to go with. Does anyone have the same or similar 5 spokes that are black?

Generally speaking, I'm not a fan of black wheels on anything other than either neutral colored cars (black/white/grey) or very bright solids (red/yellow).

On a baby blue metallic, which is a more traditional, elegant tone, I'd be looking for an elegant wheel color. If you absolutely want to go darker/sportier, I'd choose a medium-dark anthracite, potentially with a matte finish.
 
Case in point though: that car is silver, pre-96 with the more aggressive, big-nostril front end. The 96 face-lift is more subtle; it doesn't give me the black wheel vibe. Totally subjective I admit.
 
I also vote for silver paint like Kevin originally said. Eric's car is closer to dark pavement and windows are tinted
 
I was leaning that direction potentially as well, but I looked at @Ericv8thunderbird car again and re-fell in love with his car and the black wheels so that is what im leaning towards.

I think it strongly depends on the wheel design. Eric’s wheels have a lot of concavity to the spokes giving more dimension to them despite the muted black color, my black bullitts (although they have machined lips in addition) are similar since the spokes are very curvy. I find a lot of otherwise nice modern wheel designs in silver/machined finishes just look lost painted black, which I see a lot on just regular newer appliance cars where there’s a factory black or silver option on the same wheel. Some wheels look good in any finish, but some stand out specifically well in one.

My biggest advice on this sort of thing is imagine (or render with photoshop or whatever) your car at an unflattering angle with unideal lighting, maybe a little blurry or distorted even, and judge your choice from that rather than the idealized image in your head or from other examples. I’ve had 6 totally different sets of wheels in different finishes on my car over the years, and I could get them all to pop in the most ideal scenarios, but it was the worst conditions I truly judged them by, and only two of those sets I truly loved on my car in the best AND worst of conditions.
 
If you have a car on jack stands and an identical car that runs and drives, and then you take a small part (a non-critical part, interior cosmetic, for example) from the car on jack stands to give to the running car, does that make the car on jack stands a parts car?
 
Can I cut aluminum with a general metal cutting disk on an angle grinder? my cat guard is not clearing the o2 sensors and I legit just need a couple more millimeters in the gap for clearance

It’s more aggressive alignment spec from the stock specs a little more camber to retain contact patch, a little more caster for steering feel/response. It’s not standard because Ford’s biggest clientele for these cars new skewed older and they expected smooth effortless ride and comfort. The specs will shorten tire life a smidge as well in spite of the claim it doesn’t
 
A lot of times when diagnosing suspension noises instead of a straight up/down on a corner, I'll rock the car side to side. Kind of hard to explain, but imagine standing next to your car and pushing up on your A-pillar at about a 45 degree angle to the ground. Best way to find loose sway bar end links and other worn suspension bits that are normally loaded. The rocking motion helps to load and then unload suspension parts making it easier to find worn joints. Easier to do if you can have an assistant rock the car while you lay underneath feeling different suspension parts.

Is the noise approximately consistent with the rotation speed of a wheel? When I think of a consistent thumping sound I think of broken or shifted tire belt.

Tire shop fixed up the tire imbalance, it was in the front. They allude the sound is from rear swar bar endlinks, but I have a feeling that I wont want their parts. Might as well pick up mid section bushings too

I'm not sure if the bird was lowered by previous owners, or if the height change comes from the 255/40R18
 
I repaired my stock rear endlinks by cutting down one of the generic poly bushings they had hanging on the wall at advance auto. my bushing was gone.
