What did you do with your Thunderbird Today?

Steering column is pristine. I started it right up and drove it home. The only thing missing was the battery and the radio. I have no clue how they started it but they did. Took my silly xenon kit too, hence the weird exhaust. There's also no loose wiring anywhere indicating a hot wire
I hope you washed your hands at least 100 times after touching the steering wheel.

Interesting. I wonder if they used a worn out ford key. I heard old honda keys can do that. Dildos or no dildos, I am glad that you got the car back. Was it found abandoned, or did they nab somebody?

I imagine it was an aftermarket head unit?

Until I upgraded my lock cylinder to the early-1996 SN95 one, you could turn the key bezel without a key in it to start the car.

The type of person who would steal a car to get a body kit is exactly the type of person I picture who thinks “body kits are tight, yo!”

Seriously though, so glad you got it back!

What a dumb car to steal a body kit off of, the one other Tbird in town suddenly has a Xenon kit, gee I wonder where they got it!

Honestly the thing i am stumped and fascinated by is their sheer stupidity. they left a ton of paperwork in the car with their name on it, but are smart enough to get the car moving without tearing up the steering console or the wiring. I dont have any other keys so im confused on that front. As for the body kit well... hey it came with the car lol

There was another ford key left in the car and i tried it but that particular one didnt work. I might wear it down to see if that actually works though

Yeah i immediately washed my hands. The only reason its still there even is the police decided they want to see the bag

Rake the key in and out of the lock a few times while trying to turn it to Run. If you still have the original lock cylinder, it'll probably turn.

The weird part is that i cant get the other key into the lock

I got the trans out today, what a B**ch that was. It ended up slipping forward on my trans jack, so I had to slide it off onto the ground and manhandle it out from underneath the car.
After that, my ocd kicked in and I started cleaning the trans tunnel, I’ll probably end up painting it, cause you know..ocd. 😂
Was it hard getting to the bellhousing bolts or something? After replacing the transmission in my son's '06 Durango in 15 degree temperatures I don't think any other trans swap will seem difficult. Single most frustrating trans swap in my life and I've done a few. I've never pulled a trans in a 4.6 car before.

I can never get the car up high enough to wheel the trans out on the jack (I just have a jack and a piece of wood). I always have to drag it out. Going in is always worse because of having to get the trans onto the jack while laying on my back under the car. I had to have my son help me on that one. That was the heaviest transmission I've ever handled in my life.

Bell housing bolts weren’t that bad at all, a long reach flexible ratchet helps tremendously.

It actually worked out better that it slipped off the trans jack, because I don’t think I would have been able to get the car up high enough to get it out.

Once I got it off the jack and on the ground I pulled the torque converter which made it lighter and easier to drag it out from underneath the car.

Moved it up top so I could get the GLI out of the driveway. New battery went in it today.

If anyone is in the market for a solid car for their kid, I'll be selling the GLI soon.

I usually do the top bellhousing bolts with the wiper cowl pulled, not that that’s particularly fun but I still prefer it to the eleventeen extensions blind from underneath.

I’ll never understand Ford’s rationale for the stupid midplate. It’s one of things I hate to admit GM guys are right about on hating on Fords lol

I was able to get the top bell housing bolts with just a standard 3/8 ratchet. I didn’t need to remove the wiper cowl

It's impossible for me to get at them from the top unless I yank the intake and all the EGR and crack-pipe mod plumbing. I've always tackled them from underneath with a couple feet of extensions; no complaints. But I totally feel your pain; when I removed the dead DD trans and installed the new BCA one, I had to take them off (and put them back on) the trans jack from under the car because I was NOT lifting it high enough to clear with it on! Pain in the upper body!

Yesterday, it was The Car's time for her monthly checks/servicing.
Checking tire pressure due to colder weather, checking fluids, desulfating & charging battery, lubing locks & hinges, checking & tightening hoses, moisturizing her interior (dames and their moisturizing rituals), etc, etc.
She's a low-maintenance woman. 8-)
