I'm sure most everyone has heard by now that there's a major winter storm going across a lot of the country this weekend. From ice in the South to the Carolinas, snow from Oklahoma to the Northeast, Mother Nature is throwing everything at us. Just stay safe out there and hopefully it's not too disruptive for everyone.

Might be up to 2 feet of snow here by Monday afternoon, thank God for the fluff factor! ❄️

Mostly just cold here, I think I heard the high tomorrow will be -1°F. Course everyone’s in panic mode, I had to get gas today and I had to wait in a freaking line!

Are these cars any good in the snow?

    :unsure::facepalm:

I miss driving my Cougar in the snow, the salt brine is its kryptonite. They’re tail happy, not going to lie, but the long wheelbase makes them real easy to control if countersteering is intuitive to you.

We're just far enough north that we're expecting "only" single-digit accumulations. Cold though, as has been said. We had a foot the other day when a low swirled in from the NW and whipped up all the lake moisture and put it right back down onto us. Most of that is still on the ground.

Our daughter's due date is just over 2 weeks away - she better not decide that she wants to see snow this weekend and dart for that finish line early! 😬

IDK if y'all get ice storms, but we're supposed to get cold, snow, sleet, then freezing rain, leading to .25 to .75" of ice and snow. I will be indoors, chillin with the cat.

Ice storms are the actual worse. Sub zero temps are uncomfortable, snow you need to exercise caution, but ice is straight up roulette. Stay home.

Fun fact: if you park outdoors, and you have a thick layer of fresh powdery snow on your car, you can easily clean it up with a leaf blower. You have to act quickly, before it freezes.

You can also take it for a drive for a few miles and piss off everyone following you 😂

Interesting, its cold up here right now (-23° F) but by next Monday its going to be warming up to 12° F with no snow in the forecast. Good luck with the ice, I know there's almost always some bad highway accidents every time the ice comes down no matter where. Stay safe down there

In the 80's, I had to walk from where 40 hits 75, south of knoxville, to Harriman, walking in the grass median of I40, because you couldn't walk on the pavement.

I'm headed out to a client for a meeting this morning and my route takes me past an Asian grocery store that we occasionally make a special trip to every few months. Since work is paying for the time and travel to get out there I'll be paying them a visit today to get some stuff, including a favorite of ours - matcha ice cream. This time, I can leave it in the car without fear of it melting because it's literally as cold as a freezer today! 🥶

My wife raves about the '97 with the Blizzak's on it. I haven't driven it much with them in the deep snow. Mostly just packed snow and ice. Our house is 8-10 miles from the lake so we get hammered no matter what. I've been doing nothing but shoveling when I get home from work every night since last Saturday or Sunday.

Biggest issue is usually not ice or snow, you can always adjust your driving to accommodate no traction, but lack of visibility. That was the main driver behind the 100 car pile up here on Monday. It's hard to describe the feeling when you are driving and suddenly you cannot see anything past the body of your car. I'm no tough guy, but the only time I've been scared driving a car was going to work about 30 years ago. The place where I worked was right on the lakeshore and the highway there followed the lakeshore. Between two towns on the highway in the middle of nowhere and it was like somebody dropped a white box over my car. Do you stop? If so where? You could be right in the middle of the highway for all you know. If you stop there is a good chance somebody will hit you from behind. Do you keep going? You have absolutely no references to tell you where you are. You could be headed straight into the ditch. In the end, I kept going at about 20mph until I was through it. That was a long drive.

I will bet I'll see people on the web sledding where we used to go, Key springs road, one of the old "evacuation" trails from the 40's. Drops off a ridge probably 800' in 1/2 mile, 2 sharp>90 corners, and a 15' high jump at the bottom. It eats sleds. :) Last time I was there it were 29 below. I will not be there this weekend.

I’ve been in similar white out conditions, totally sucks and very scary.

Well it was definitely cold, I belatedly popped the hood of the Cougar to pull the battery and throw it on a charger (It’s 8 years old but I’m not replacing it until it’s dead damnit! )and the otherwise good hood shocks would not hold it!

The temp display in the Focus said -4 to -8 all day and it seems it. Wasn’t that bad though, sunny and clear skies without much wind, I found yesterday worse frankly.
