Winter storm this weekend!

from Farrgaut through Kingston?

Here in NashVegas calling for up to 1" of ICE.
Yeah, 6x 1000' ridges, and ~ 20 miles of particularly frozen grass/ice. No fun. And there isn't a bar for the whole way, lol.

I bought some gas for our generator, filled and fired it up for the first time in like 20 years. The darn thing fired right up! I was very happy.

All set, should the power fail.
I bought gas for my generator when the we lost power last month and the reports from the utility company were that it was going to be out for a couple of days. That never happened, lights were back on a couple of hours later.

Power outages won't be a problem with this storm, unless some asshole takes a pole down because they shouldn't be out driving because of the snow amounts. Hopefully the ice doesn't add up to much and the lights stay on for you Ron.

So far so good here. Sleet and some snow last night but no freezing rain… so far.

My sis (south of Nashville) sent me this earlier today... she said it's been 24 hours of sleet atop 4" of snow with trees falling all over; fortunately she still has power.

Snow started for us overnight, looks like about 3" so far (on top of the 10" or so already on the ground) with another ~6" expected today - not too bad ... for us. The elusive city snow plow even graced our street with its presence!

Over a foot right now.

I'm 4 deep after watching the Patriots/Broncos game so I'm in no hurry to worry about snow right now! Go Pats! 🏈

The bulk of the snowfall ended around 8, so I went out to clear the driveway. Looks like we got 10" or so... we'll see if any more falls overnight. All the counties around here are under either level 2 or level 3 snow emergencies (not sure if that's a thing outside Ohio) so I'm not going anywhere in the morning. :)

We don't have levels in Iowa. It's a snow emergency or it's not. And basically it means get your shit box off one side of the street one day and move it to the other the next.

We have parking bans, then the level 1, 2 and 3 snow emergencies.

Parking ban is just that - no parking on city streets.

Snow emergencies are as follows:
  • Level 1: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be icy. Motorists are urged to drive very cautiously.
  • Level 2: Roadways are hazardous with blowing and drifting snow. Roads may also be very icy. Only those who feel it is necessary to drive should be out on the roads. Contact your employer to see if you should report to work. Motorists should use extreme caution.
  • Level 3: All roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel. No one should be driving during these conditions unless it is absolutely necessary to travel or a personal emergency exists. All employees should contact their employer to see if they should report to work. Those traveling on the roads may subject themselves to arrest.

We dodged a bullet in Charlotte. As it mostly came down as sleet very little actually stuck to the trees. We're above freezing now at about 38 degrees so it's melting off of the trees and power lines. We didn't lose power either. Thank heavens!

Heres a few shots to try and work with. Just like you though the ice/ snow is now melting.
I can also give you the uncropped version and maybe you can photoshop out the mirror.

It's still snowing here, though this time it's lake effect... high temperature through the remainder of this week is 16.:bawling:

It's melting hard here, as it always does. Roads will refreeze tonight though.

We actually got missed by most of it; we had a inch of snow that evaporated. It's 22F now, and this is the high.
Do cats get seasonal affectional disorder? My kitty seems pissed at the cold weather.

About 18" here, could get a couple of more inches over night. Luckily it was light and easy to move. Good news is that there may be another coastal storm next Sunday! Are you shitting me?!

Joe

Fortunately it was pretty light, even by the road. If it was a heavier snow I'd probably still be shoveling...well maybe not anymore today...it's down to 7 now and supposed to go to -5 tonight, then colder later this week...highs in the teens and negative lows until Sunday, not even sure when it will get above freezing yet. Next Wednesday says 30 so that will feel like a heat wave by that point...

Anyone have problems with all the ice? Reports on the news looked pretty bad in some spots, especially Mississippi.
