Guy behind the counter told me they clear records like that after four years and he seemed kind of pissed that I had such an old receipt.

For some reason, retail/cashiers often take it personally when they feel like the store they work for is being "taken advantage of" (from their perspective), as if the replacement/exchange/return came out of their own pocket.

Many times it does. I worked on the retail side of the parts and service industry years ago and it was a commission-pay job. We were paid a percentage of the final bill along with incentives or bonuses for selling whatever brand or item was being promoted that week.

Anything that was a warranty sale was essentially unpaid work.

Nothing pissed me off more than someone coming in with a dead battery in something like a GM with its 500 hold downs and I had to go test and swap it out for free while the other guy sells $500 of AC or brake parts without lifting a finger.

Interesting example. It's sad to hear that some companies chain their employees' paychecks to something they have little control over.

My experience in retail was for large companies that paid a base rate - no commission. Even in those environments, the attitude was prevalent.

My "intro" into IT was working retail sales job at a place called PC Club back in the day. Think of it like a Fry's Electronics or Microcenter, but much more Mom and Pops style. They were pretty prevalent in SoCal and the greater SW part of the US.

Anyway, yes, the retail sales job was based salary of minimum wage and something like 5% of margin after a minimum sales floor, and the minimum sales floor was pretty low, $5k, IIRC. Whenever a customer came in for PC repair, us sales guys would swoon over to the customer because those PC repair invoices were 100% margin sales.

And whenever a return was made, especially on a high margin item, like a system build, it would defeat us. But I don't remember that the person making the return would take the hit on the sale / margin, it would be the person that made the sale.

Same thing happened to my car insurance rep .. i was trying to work with them ( farmers ) and he didn't give a shit until i canceled the policy - since I paid in full, he had already recieved his $300 customer retention bonus months before .. well they docked his paycheck and I finally got a call to resolve my issue. Too late. 🤣

We got our homeowners renewal this week and it went up $500 for the year. We have a 3bed ranch with a walk-out basement and it's paid off. It went up $400 last year, but I didn't say anything because we had a baby coming any day and I didn't have the energy to deal with it.

I've not been happy with them since they totalled the Fusion out for what was essentially trim damage, so I started getting quotes. All those companies must talk with each other because all the sudden I got a call from my agent wanting to discuss my options.

The job I was at eventually transitioned to a base pay ($5.50/hr minimum wage) plus commission. Retention was awful and nobody was willing to work for free. As long as the customer didn't return the item the same day, you kept the commission. Once the day was done, the books closed. It was the warranty work that screwed us.

I wasn't mad at the guy behind the counter and I usually give retail people a wide berth. I think he was flustered because he couldn't pull it up quickly in his computer and the receipt wouldn't scan so he had to enter the information in manually. I don't really think I was taking advantage of anything other than the lifetime warranty that they sold with the part. Just because I keep my cars longer than the average bear doesn't mean the warranty doesn't apply to me.

Last week I did my first drag n drive event, Sick Summer. Went well, only casualty was a pair of tires and a canopy. If you ever get the chance, do it the week was a blast. I ran the dial your own class, we started with 114 cars ended up with 104, and I placed 18th. Not bad considering I haven’t need down the track in over two years.

Well, it looks like my Honda's performance issue seems to be catalytic converter, all but confirmed.

Pulled the primary O2 sensor and she seems to be running better. She has that nice raspy raw v6 noise too. Kinda dig it 😅

It’s been done a few times, but it’s definitely not the easy way out. What those pictures don’t show is all the reworking of the dash that is required to clear the clutch quadrant. The dash itself has to be trimmed, the wiring has to be rerouted, and the HVAC ductwork going to the left side vents has to be removed completely.

Toddler started jumping on the bed last night. I told him to quit. He jumped and headbutted me straight in the nose. Blood everywhere and it swelled up like Marsha Brady's almost instantly.

My face hurts today. It's been about 15-20 years since I last broke my nose and I am feeling that 15-20 years.

Bots! Bots everywhere! Blame Canada!

I"m looking for a 2016 Ford Explorer batter post cover (Positive side but I could use both). I'm striking out at Rockauto and Amazon. I wouldn't think they'd be this hard to find. Does anyone know where I can find one? Didn't think this warranted starting a thread in the wanted section. Thanks.

My wife had the battery replaced in 2021 while I was on the road. Apparently the shop removed the cover and never replaced it. I never noticed until I had to replace the battery again this week.

Man at least we got some input in the banner at TSTSNBN. Who in the hell even remembers the final gen Dakota that is front and center? I forgot those piles even existed until now

This only raises more questions for me than answers. Primarily, why are we not BirdcatZ?

At least it was a lot a lot funnier than getting it broke in a bar fight, lol.
I took up riding a dirtbike in 2001, 38yo.
Hitting the ground at 38 is completely different than 20.
I can't imagine a 30 mph wipeout now at 62.

Was doing my usual Friday night rig repairs when I got a call from one of my customers freaking out because he can't get is 2020 Fusion to shift out of park. This after he relays to me that a shop charged him $1300 several months ago to change the fluid and replace a shift solenoid and he's thinking the car is seconds from exploding.

Some quick research indicated it was likely a bushing that connects the shift cable to the manual lever on the transmission. He wasn't far from me, so I went over to him to confirm. Apparently the guys that designed this weren't around for the AOD TV cable bushing issue. Anyhoos, a quick trip to the parts store for a $20 () Dorman bushing and he is back on the road. All the while, I'm thinking about the shift mechanism and thinking, this is progress? A little electrical joystick knob thingy that sends a signal to a motor to push/pull a cable back and forth to spare people the indignity of having to manually move a lever? How is this helpful? Much like everything else, they replace a simple mechanical mechanism with electrical controls with 15 more potential failure modes all because BMW was doing it 20 years ago? Sigh. Sometimes I think if a Ford Model A could keep up with today's traffic, that is what I would be driving.

Thought I'd update you all on Trubendz. I ordered 2.5" "cat back" with the Xpipe back on May 20. Finally got notification yesterday July 19th, that they have shipped. I've seen it taking a long time, so I ordered a bit early, and glad I did. That's a long wait, so plan ahead if you need exhaust. Now I just hope it arrives before I go on vacation...

Anyone renewed their passport online yet? Mine expires in a month or so and it is eligible to renew on the internet. No need for expedited service or anything like that.

I have both the book and the card. Any horror stories?

I need to get my Real ID and passport, but the spelling of my name vs how it's legally spelled is different. My legal spelling has an extra letter in it that I don't want as all my other legal documents from everything doesn't have that extra letter, including my marriage certificate.

It looks like I need a court order to have it changed? How do I go about changing my name to get my Real ID and passport with the spelling of my name I want?

Yeah, you'll need to get a legal name change via your local jurisdiction.
