Hit and run

Today, my brand-new turn signal assembly should be delivered. Then my car will be complete again. I'll post some pics after that.

I painted the forward edge of the fender, and it admittedly looks a bit like a rush job. Some polishing will probably help. O'Reillys actually carries Dupli-Color Pacific Green (PS) in stores, which surprised me.

I couldn't get rid of all the paint transfer on the bumper cover. I followed various tutorials in soaking the area with WD-40, then washing, but there's still some black transfer from unpainted black plastic of his bumper trim. Any other product you all recommend?

Meanwhile, I did an oil change since the car was already up on the ramps...and I think I did something stupid: I drained the oil completely cold; car hadn't been driven in over 24 hours. The moment I pulled the drain plug, I thought damn...
It was pretty thick, drained somewhat more slowly that normal, but still drained the normal amount. But I remember reading all this stuff about how you're not supposed to drain the oil after the car has been standing, because of sediments, etc. (?).

This was my second oil change with Valvoline Restore & Protect, about 2,500 miles since the last change. The oil was as black as can be, so I'm guessing some cleaning is happening. I will say that the car runs exceptionally smoothly with this oil.

New turn signal housing after chrome-dome removal surgery, to make it consistent with my other lights.

And finally everything back together. Unfortunately it got too late/dark/rainy to take any decent pictures. Had to aim the driver side headlight, too. Seven days from hit & run to this, I think I am at peace with the whole episode now.

I'm sure someone can make a mistake like that, but I often wonder if it was an attempt at insurance fraud
Yep, seen that happen. People causing an accident that makes it look like your fault to get the insurance. Similar to sellers on ebay selling you crap, you send it back (or keep it), the blame shipping and collect on the "insurance". People are always trying to come up with ways to make a dime without having to work at it. Sad.

A recent scam that hit one of our clients was rather crafty.

A scammer identified an individual that made purchases for the client and sent an email to a hardware vendor using a fake email address mimicking that individual. The hardware vendor sent the scammer a legit quote, and the scammer sent the hardware vendor a fake PO with the client's real address. The vendor sent the hardware to the client, then the scammer called the client immediately after they saw (via tracking) that the hardware was delivered and had them "return" the equipment to them with a shipping label they created with their real address.

We train all our employees and clients to recognize this kind of social engineering, but it was shocking to see that in this case, it was the big-name reseller was the one who got duped!
