Post a picture you took today

Its an All in One (aio) liquid cooler for the processor, basically fluid flows through the tubes to the copper plate that sits on the processor and then the warm liquid flows to a radiator mounted at the top of the case and fans blow through the radiator to extract the heat, its very analogous to a cars cooling system, which I really like I guess its my primitive monkey brain that finds it interesting
What is it?

New truck?

After driving the 24 Suburban for a week, I wasn't all that impressed. Sure it had plenty of room for the family and a load of luggage .. but the 5.3L engine was underwhelming, same with the brakes .. maybe I am more biased with a 6.0L and 6.2L with 14" brembos all around at home. The little things don't bother me nearly as much ( lack of shifter, LCD cluster ).

We went to the dealership to see what they had in stock. Basically, for the same package as the rental, they wanted $80k .. same with the Tahoe ( although probably slightly improved performance due to weight difference ) - the one I want to test drive is the RST package with bigger brakes and the 6.2L, but that's a special order item. So, end of the day, I'm stuck with what I've got ( for now ) 😉

With all the failures the new LT motors are having, I wouldn’t touch one of those trucks with a 10ft pole! I’ve had 3 of them come into the shop with failed lifters in just the past few months, all with under 100k miles. And to replace the lifters the entire top end has to come apart, 19 hours labor! The last one the guy decided not to fix it, had me throw a pushrod in it and he babied it to the dealer and traded it in on a 2022 GMC 1500 with only 13k miles, and didn’t have the new truck a week before one of the lifters failed on it! The LS was damn near indestructible, and made plenty of power, but those LT motors are complete junk and will simply not hold up the way the LS, or even the original SBC did.

Agreed wholly. I wouldn't even consider a new GM SUV or pickup right now. I know you're a GM lifer, but I'd definitely wait it out and see if the quality comes back before buying one.

Even with the updated lifters ? One of the other things I didn't like about the rental .. the cylinder deactivation and the auto start at stops. Seems to be a contributing factor / in addition to the direct injection. Most of the LS problems i read about seem to be with trunions and the camshaft.

I still own 4 Fords ( projects ), 3 Chevys ( pleasure ) and drive a Dodge ( work truck ) .. 😉

Told the wife if we end up at the Ford dealership I may end up test driving a Mustang .. 😆

Picked up a bit of a project yesterday. Have been looking for a set of these for my old F150 for a while. Filthy and the tires are junk but the wheels are actually pretty decent. Going to strip the clearcoat and repolish . Will post an after pic.

The start stop can be deactivated, but you have to do it every time you start the car, not sure about the cylinder deactivation. But yeah I think Chevy’s been trying to milk every last drop of fuel mileage to hit targets and it’s at the cost of durability and drivability kind of like what happened to engines in the 70s. Ford too, I’m certain those wet belts are worth a fraction of a percentage less parasitic loss over a direct or chain drive.

So this would have been the Trailblazer SSs would be replacement? Yeah stick with the tried and true, those still even look fairly current today

The “defective” lifters that were updated would lose the bearings in the rollers and wipe out the cams. Those were in I believe 2019-2021 trucks, and were pretty much all taken care of under warranty, but the failure of the AFM lifters is ongoing. Basically it deactivates for the AFM, but doesn’t pump up quickly enough when re-engaged, and so it spits out the pushrod and starts misfiring. You can replace just the pushrod, but it will fail again. If you got one brand new and immediately disabled AFM, then it might be OK, but I have also seen some people saying that they had AFM disabled for a long time and still had failed lifters.

And that’s not even getting into the brand new 6.2s that are locking up due to bad bearings!

And the new F150s aren’t much better. I hate to say it, but if I had to buy a new truck, I’d probably go for a Tundra. Toyota still seems to have enough sense to know that no matter what they do, a full size pickup is going to have shitty mileage, so they aren’t going nuts trying to chase mpgs in the truck engines, especially since they can make up the CAFE numbers with Priuses.

Close; the Trailblazer SS is a keeper, but she wants to upgrade her Trailblazer LS ( 4.2 I6 ) 😉

I’d probably go for a Tundra

In this case, that would be the Sequoia, but I'd almost rather go for the Lexus version .. 🤔

Our next family car will likely be a Taco 6MT crew cab with a bedcap for these exact reasons.

My sister bought a brand new Escalade; I'm not sure if it has the LT4 or the L87 in it. We'll see how that goes... :leftright:
Is it the V series? Those things are wild!

FWIW, I've had good luck with my LT 5.3. 126k miles and counting. I've also ran Amsoil since 15k miles ( I bought it at 13k). Changes around 20% life left and always looked to nice to change. I do not baby my truck at all, and have slightly oversized tires. Some towing and hauling, but not a lot. I'd say normal usage, but better than normal care.

They all have their issues and most will show themselves during warranty, or last a long time with proper care.

I think all AFM/DoD systems are trouble prone across all manufacturers. I rebuilt a 5.3 in a '07 Suburban a couple of months ago. Tired to talk the owner into deleting that garbage and just going to standard lifters all around, but he wasn't having it. Aside from the valve train the rest of the engine was shockingly immaculate, but I already had it on a stand so of course I'm going to throw rings and bearings in it.

After the issues with the AFM lifters in the LS engines, I am surprised they decided to change all of the lifters to AFM in the LT engines.

Cars are too unnecessarily overburdened with technology these days. The reason GM has to squeeze every 1/4 percent of mileage from their trucks is because they don't make cars anymore.

I like your flooring.
It makes a differnce when you use a finish or paint your floors. I think it was worth the money to paint mine. It's about time to paint them again after 13 years of hard use. The worse part of having finished floors are the tire rubber marks left after the car drives in and out, back and forth... burn outs don't help. I don't know about the finish Willie is using, but it may be easy to clean tire marks off with his finish. I bought rubber flooring to keep the floor from getting the marks. Ha! the rubber flooring buckled in certain areas and became a hazard for tripping over, the flooring had to go in one garage.

Im not happy with mine. Mainly the prep cause it's peeling in places. But there's also bubbles that trap dirt and fluids so it doesn't look great in person.

Better than bare concrete though, for damn sure.

So the new booster was put together not clocked correctly.

Kinda ironic since this was supposed to get rid of my leaning MC issue.
