The Unofficial "Ask a Stupid Question" Thread

Those are a foot longer than the 2v set I have.
Those are gonna rock!
So have you managed to scare yourself with the new cams?
I was surprised when I put the pi cams/intake on. :)
Im a little confused by your question. What should I be scared of?

I misread the thread; I thought that was a pic of matt's new kooks, which he recently added, along with bitchin' cams. Thats the scary I speak of. So the headers in the pic are longtubes for what, by who?

I have no clue who they are by, but I was told they were got a 2v mustang.

These are the ones I've got.

I nearly forgot, I have a rusty old pair of 4V MACs to compare, I’d definitely say they were made with the same jigs as yours. The collectors are shorter because the PO welded them directly to the exhaust and cut them off 🙄 I intended to address that but went to Kooks instead

I have not used that, but have you already exhausted the option of "high mileage" type oils?

My last oil change, I used Super Tech Advanced High Mileage, and after 3,500 miles the oil is still at the full mark.

The previous four oil changes were Valvoline Restore and Protect, which cleans the engine and may have cleaned away some "sealing sediments", which resulted in the oil dropping to about halfway between full and low on the dipstick by the time the next oil change was due.

My oil seems to be coming from higher up though. Not sure if these oils do anything for main seals.

I’m not a fan of these sorts of additives, much preferring alternatives like thicker, ATF or high mileage oils but I have had some success with Blue Devil. Never used it in an engine but it did cure a differential leak

My rear main also leaks, I tried using a high milage oil and it still seeps so this summer I think I might try something like this, just to test if it works and get it to stop occasionally dripping

The saying goes that if you add a bit just before an oil change it helps loosen up stubborn crud. Same goes for a can of Sea Foam.

In reality, good oil at proper change intervals keeps the engine plenty clean without needing to screw with the lubricating properties of the oil in the engine every few months.

Interesting feed back. I went ahead and orderd it and it will be here on Saturday. We are going on a long trip soon and taking the Cougar for the first time in years. I want to make sure the car is running its best (and no more exploding distributors). I also bought the Lucas Fuel Treatment for the tank. I do have some questions about the trip in another post.

Thanks all for the responses on my question.

What recent (or not) affordable tools or shop things do you guys use and really like? My family is asking me what I what for my birthday and now I can't think of anything to ask for that's not car parts or prohibitively expensive. I did ask for a borescope camera as I know I have wanted one for a while and will make use of it, but I can't think of any other good ideas to give them

Depends on the tool. I have a handful of Harbor Freight ones I swear by like my Hercules impact.

Make it easy on them and more flexible for you...ask for gift cards to Amazon and Harbor Freight.

I wish we had Harbor Freight 😔, its the one thing I envy about the states, the closest we have is Princess auto but the quality is no where near as good. I see what you are getting at with the gift cards, that is a good idea.

In order of importance, I'd say cordless 1/2" impact, cordless drill, booster battery pack.
A Set of socket adapters for the drill, it's lighter and faster to remove bolts, once broken loose with the impact.

I tried to get the idiots I worked with to get one of these for a project we were working on. They set the shop on fire with a torch ihstead; they forgot the pcb cleaner we used was hexane, a major part of gasolene, lol.
I'd way rather use one of these.

With the brands that are going away because of the automotive parts bankruptcy, would it be advisable to purchase one of those branded parts like Raybestos?

Raybestos makes the trans parts, so time to put aside a rebuild kit.

For brake pads, do I want ceramic or semi-metallic pads?

This one is always hard to me for some reason, and IDK why...

I got a set of cheap semi-metallic pads and I’m not sure if it’s because they were cheap but the dust on my wheels was awful and nearly instant, then I picked up a set of ceramic pads when the came available and the dust was way less (nearly nonexistent) so I personally would choose ceramic but ymmv
