The Unofficial "Ask a Stupid Question" Thread

Has anyone ever modified/removed the 97 coin holder. I really A. don't need it, and B. don't like the look of it. I'm thinking about replacing it with sort of a small cubby slot, a place to hold lip balm, cough drops, etc.
The coinholder piece is removable. but, I'd trade console tops with you. I have a loose non coinholder one.

That's intriguing to add a USB port and what looks to be an additional 12V port (in addition to the cigarette lighter serving the same purpose). Or are you considering using that port hooked to a power inverter to get 120AC out of it?

For the USB port, there's also plenty of options to buy inexpensive USB chargers that plug into the cigarette lighter. I have one for that purpose.
And instead of blocking off the coin slots, could two of them have been repurposed to be the USB & 12V ports you added to minimize the surgery & work you're doing to the console?

Just my two cents. I like the direction you're going, but these ideas popped into my head to ask.

I found the boat shops had the best quality 12v socket/cig lighter ports.

Well, I can't go to a previous model year because I'd lose the cupholders. I want to modify my current panel.

Seriously. I had(and still have in storage) the objectively cooler and rare 94-95 SC 5-speed console but the cupholders are so much more practical and cleaner looking. The coinholders are a compromise

Oh, that's very nicely done. Great job.
Is the voltage reading for the car's battery, since they removed the voltmeter from the '97 instrument cluster?

I was considering a ring of white leds on tape around the top, dim.
I need one more 97 console top.

Correct.

Simple & elegant solution. I like it.

But what's this?

Well, that button was a mistake...

But initially, it was my Overdrive Off button; then it had no function for a while; and now it's a temporary power button to the tape deck motor.

I use a tape deck adapter to connect my phone. The noise of the motor always bothered me, but you need the motor to initially engage the adapter when turning on the radio, which only takes a second. After that, the motor is no longer needed.

But if I did it again, I would place this button close to the radio. Meanwhile, my Overdrive Off switch has turned into a small steering column mounted stalk, which is my version of a shift paddle.

Do coil springs wear out? As far as I know my front struts are original to the car and have 180,000 kms (~112,000 miles) on them. Theres nothing blatantly wrong with them but I wonder if my ride quality would improve with new ones, when I bounce the suspension it rebounds a bit bit but noting drastic but the shocks might be wore out a bit. I see that only rock auto has the monroe struts as no where in neaeb me can I find them for a decent price.

New question:

Since my heater core is permanently disconnected, I'd like to disconnect the blend door actuator in the fully COOL position because...well, I don't know. Because that way no accidental messing with it can occur by the driver or passenger.

Is there any concern with that? Electrical or otherwise? I would just disconnect the plug behind the glovebox.

Do you have sport springs? Because the Monroe will come with shit springs, you may want to get just the shock absorbers, and get your stock springs installed on them.

Springs can break and they’ve probably sagged a little since the car was new but besides that they don’t really wear out.

It seems silly to me but yes you can do that.

I have a base model v6 Canadian car, I definitely do not have any sort of spring or shock package from factory. In fact, when I looked at the list, I have the thinnest sway bars ever put on an mn12 😆 which actually leads to another question, would thicker SC sway bars bolt up to my car without modification? If I ever find another sc in the junk yard, that’s the first thing I would take if they do bolt up

Have you ever ran into that guy in edmonton with all the MN12 parts?
John.... I forgot his last name.

I have, he actually lives down the road from me, just haven’t talked to him in a very long time, I wonder if he would have some spare sway bars he’d be willing to part with for a good price

I drove to his house from kamloops in a snowstorm with an open diff to grab a traclok diff from him. This was before I knew about shipping items. He had a ton of parts, and a fast burgundy sc. I think it was a 1995 according to my memory of his front bumper.

Couple years ago was the last time I was there and I recall he had a I think a blue car and he said it ran 10's, but it was waiting for a new slave at that time.

The door sticker tells what springs you have.
std v8 is 33gg, sport is jjjj.

This guy needs to join us over here.

Come to think of it, I wonder if having the lighter 3.8 mill with the normal springs, gives a similar effect to having the heavier 5.0 or 4.6 mill with the sport springs? 🤔 with better weight distribution. When I pull the car out of storage, I will be sure to look and confirm what I have
