Finance Thread - What stocks are you in, etc.

If you look at the reasons for the great depression, the big one was a tarrif act that fucked trade with Britan and france. This caused a dump of the stock market, and a run on banks. The entire money supply went into peoples pockets or matresses.

SBF got 25 years.

Thoughts
1) With $11B stolen, that's only $440M/yr. I'm sure plenty of people (myself included) would be open to doing a year or two @ $400M/yr.
2) He will get out at 57 and he'll be young enough that his dick will likely still work when he gets out. It would have been nicer if they just let him rot in prison

Sold my DAL holding on May 5.

Looking to buy more PLTR this week.

What are you guys up to?

Seems like this year has been "the only way to win is not to play" for my playful portfolio so I'm trying to sit on my hands for a bit. I've got more than I ive put in into it, even though most of the P/L is in (parenthesis)

I hoe one of y'all is in Nvidia. They just announced a 10-1 stock split, lol. I was in 20+ years ago, just before ati became the top cards :) At less than $10, iirc. It's showing 949 a share right now, lol. If I'd kept that 100 shares...

It's up to $1000 in after hours trading.

Yeah; if you had 100 shares from 20 years ago, it's split 2:1, 1.5:1, and 4:1 since then. Those 100 shares would be 1200 right now ... I'll let you do the rest of the math. 😉

I could have bought Microsoft at $25. In HS a buddy put together a 1000 share buy, with his dad and some buddies. I couldn't come up with the 250 minimum at the time. At that time, I was turning pounds of weed, into joints, at $1 each. :) Not enough profit for stock purchases, lol. This was '79; they weren't public yet. There was a split when they went public. Dude's best buddy makes shows for discovery now. :)

Yes, I hold NVDA. Soooo Happy! The greedy fuck in me wishes I only had more shares!

I'll do the math  . You missed the last 4:1 split in your calculations.

2:1 June 27, 2000 = 200 Shares
2:1 September 17, 2001 = 400 Shares
2:1 April 7, 2006 = 800 Shares
1.5:1 September 11, 2007 = 1,200 Shares
4:1 July 20, 2021 = 4,800 Shares
10:1 May 2024 = 48,000 Shares

I caught the last 4:1 split but not the ones before that.

Back when I bought NVDA for the second time in 2020, I could have easily bought twice as much as I did, which would have set me on a better pace but still not life changing. If I had bought ten times more, I'd seriously consider retiring right now.

I don't think buying ten times more would have been realistic for me in 2020 though. But that was before I ever considered the possibility of a situation where I'd end up with a severely unbalanced portfolio due to one stock meteorically taking off.

He said 20 years so I didn't include the first two splits. 🤔

I did pick up another couple shares of NVDA this morning - I'm thinking this is going to keep rising before / after the upcoming split. 😉

Wow, it's getting pricy. It was 1,102 this morning and is currently 1,130. "Ticker Symbol: You" did a good analysis of where they're at recently.
The P/E and other metrics are remarkably really not that high.

I also saw a chart of how the stock has historically performed post-split. I wish I'd have saved it but I can't remember where I saw it at. Anyway, I think the average post-split rise is about 20%.

Keeping my eye on Super Micro (SMCI) .. they've gone from $45 to $845 in the last two years. Reason being .. they recently built another building adjacent to their HQ and purchased land across the freeway ( where a Frys Electronics was ). New construction represents growth and more future potential. 😉

Absolutely! I was in SLC a few years ago and Adobe had a huge new office building under construction next to the freeway. If I'd bought then well ...

BRK.A down 99% today on a glitch. Trading halted at 185.10

I put an order in at that price! Unfortunately, It hasn't been executed yet.

Class A shares of Berkshire Hathaway stock were halted by the New York Stock Exchange after prices dropped more than 99%.

Trading was halted as of about 9:50 a.m. ET on Monday at a price of $185.10, down 99.97% for the day. Berkshire Class B shares had fallen only 0.97% to $410.36 and were still trading.

In a notification on its website at 9:52 a.m. ET on Monday, the NYSE said, "NYSE Equities is currently investigating a reported technical issue. Additional information will follow as soon as possible."

Intercontinental Exchange, the parent company of NYSE, didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

I found the chart that I was referring to. It was an average 23.7% run up into the split but flat to down one month later.

$NVDA - I'm looking more toward the one month later % .. I was up over 20% ($400 profit in 3 days ) and back down to 12% (still almost $300 gain at this point ) .. it seems to be holding; for now. My cousin was recently contracted to do some more work at Nvidias HQ here in Santa Clara ( I pass by the building on my way to the recycle center to turn in my cans and bottles ) 🤭 .. anyways, they're still implementing infrastructure and IMO this represents potential for further growth ..

$SMCI - this one is a Rollercoaster; if I were a day trader this could be my bread and butter with price swings $50 to $90 in either direction. No, but I did buy in around the $800 point; I'd like to speculate split potential or price jump at any future quarterly announcements; they've been pretty good about beating expectations, and their expansion hasn't even broken ground yet. A split would stabilize these wild swings but when you go from $240 to $900 in the last 6 months; it's a risky investment ..

$DJT - what a joke, pure Meme stock, but unlike Roaring Kitty to $GME; this one is a daily headliner. I bought a couple shares in the "dip after the conviction" (having access to disposable income is a funny business and i spent less than it would cost to feed the family dinner at taco bell) .. I am going to gauge tonight's "debate" based on tomorrow's market performance. It's a loser company, I know, $300M in quarterly losses .. 🤣 .. but if the public starts buying this shit up; I'm leaning towards a November election "win" and bigger boost .. 🤔 hmmm.

Time to smoke a blunt and reflect on my financial decisions.

Should have bought more $TSLA when it was still <$200 last week; it's still tempting - next quarterly should look good with deliveries up and all the staff cuts 🤔, plus robotaxi, AI, Optimus and FSD still on the horizon ..

I bought some in the 170’s in February and again at 154 in April. Glad to see it climbing again

Watch it regularly. And set bottom goals. When it gets there buy it. Hindsight is always 20/20.

I wish I’d have bought and held more NVDA in 2017 and 2018. I’d be a multimillionaire now.

LASR is fairly low right now. They do lighting controls

LASR hasnt been up much, and negative revenue - but 1 year target still puts them up about 30%. Are they building new construction in your area ? What's the angle ?

I believe they belong to, or are partnered with, Acuity. Acuity is always my first choice for lighting purchases on commercial or industrial projects

The Bid is 10.65

It's been range bound between 15.91 and about 9.15 for a while. The average analyst PT is 15.80

They're down 18.6% YTD
They're down 27% over the past year.

Based on the charting alone my purchase PT would be sub $10. Although, the current floor of support is around 10.50

Bought SOFI yesterday on a limit order @ 6.20

What have you guys been up to lately?

Bought SMCI at 830 .. more TSLA at 245 and NVDA at 125 last week. 😬

There's blood in the streets!

I'll be looking for buys tomorrow.

Some in my group have been picking up META this week. I've got my eye on GOOG/GOOGL and I'm looking to get more PLTR on any drop.
