Post a picture you took today

I like how the new one has 3 gaudy emblems spanning from hood to fender to door that say exactly the same thing as the one emblem on the 90s rig does.

I'm not getting another 2nd gen. I want usable back seats, a better load capacity, and cab that doesn't sound like a shed in a storm at anything over 40mph. Plus I'm tired of the dashes and the rust issues.

And trust me, I'm not a fan of the emissions shit. But once it's out of warranty it's getting deleted.

That’s easier said than done now. EPA has come down hard on tuners and aftermarket exhaust suppliers, especially for diesels. Also NJ and various other states have demonstrated willingness to revoke registration and even titles to any vehicles they find with emissions equipment deleted, and fine owners of those vehicles tens of thousands of dollars. Plus even without the emissions stuff, I don’t trust modern diesels to last like the old ones. Everything now is built to fall apart, and it’s one thing to buy a cheap appliance of a commuter car that you have no expectation of keeping more than 10 years, but I consider dropping $50k+ on a modern diesel truck to be only marginally smarter than setting the money on fire.

^ truth. First thing I have planned for the Dakota is an oil spray undercoating.

^ Also true. States without annual inspections aren't as bad for this, but all it takes is one jackass cop who forgot to hit his spouse that morning to ruin your day.

Why? Why? and Dynamat(or similar) solves that.

I like how you're confident the modern crop of FCA/Stellantis products wont have rust issues after 30 years 🤭

That's funny. My cousin spent 70k on a new ram diesel in 2017 (in 2017 dollars); plus another 10k in upgrades .. to tow his 80k boat. 🤔

Ha, no one here in Frostbakistan cares, especially here in oil country Alberta. Just order the parts from up here and then your set. I can't help with the inspection part, you're on your own for that part. Every second truck here is deleted and running a straight pipe exhaust, one thing I love about it here, getting to listen to that turbo sing

I'm not, but I can oil it from new and not have to worry about it as much. The 01 I have was rust free when I got it 2 years ago. Now there's holes in the frame.

So he spent $160k in 2017 to have a few weekends a year on a boat, and now he has a boat and truck that together are lucky to be worth $80k? Had he just set $50k on fire in 2017, he would be up $30k! Meanwhile you probably got to go on the boat for a case of beer and a bag of weed. That’s what I call being financially savvy!

So he spent $160k in 2017

Sure, why not ?

In 2017 my cousin spent $160k on a truck / boat .. ( lift kit, wheels, emissions delete, tune, boat stereo equipment .. ) ( no kids )

In 2017, my best friend sold his ( 52 Chevy truck, 67 Cadillac deville, 67 Nova SS and 87 Blazer ) for a down-payment on a 2017 Shelby Cobra GT350 .. which he traded months later for a 2017 Shelby Cobra GT350R .. that was $100k. ( no kids )

In 2017, I bought my Chevy SS $50k plus supercharger and cosmetics $10k ( 4 door sedan, see I am rational ) .. then I spent $10k on a trip to Disneyland ( 3 kids )

That was $320k between the 3 of us for toys and entertainment ( in 2017 ). 🤔

Meanwhile you probably got to go on the boat for a case of beer and a bag of weed. That’s what I call being financially savvy!

No, I've never been on his boat actually. I helped with the stereo install. A case of beer is like a glass of water when you drink a gallon of vodka every day ( in 2017 .. ) just to put things into perspective. This is what i call "when your annual income exceeds your cost of living." .

Right now I am driving a 2017 Dodge Ram company truck; it's more like a free loaner with free gas included.

The turning point was 2020 - that's when Shit hit the fan and cost of living changed. That's a different discussion. I should also mention; me, my cousin and friend all own houses as well.

.. spending $50k on a vehicle doesn't seem unreasonable in my opinion / depending on the circumstances.

Living here in Seattle I've been tempted several times to buy different boats but I've always come to the realization that having friends/neighbors with boats, is way better than the cost, upkeep, and hassle.

Last year my friend offered to give me a free boat .. I just don't have anywhere to store it ( unless I get rid of one of these Tbirds .. 🤔 )

Hey @Wile E. Coyote maybe you should just buy a boat instead of a truck. 😉

And going with the flair side it’s not even that usable, you could probably stuff just as much stuff into the trunk and rear seat of the Taurus body.

And I like flairside trucks! To me this ruined both a ranger and a SHO.

This. The cheapest 4-door Tacoma is $36k before TTL.

A family with 3 kids in 2025 is going to spend at least that much on a new vehicle that sits them all AND hauls their stuff. And that's assuming you can live without modern convenience features like automatic climate or even Apple CarPlay.
