So he spent $160k in 2017
Sure, why not ?
In 2017 my cousin spent $160k on a truck / boat .. ( lift kit, wheels, emissions delete, tune, boat stereo equipment .. ) ( no kids )
In 2017, my best friend sold his ( 52 Chevy truck, 67 Cadillac deville, 67 Nova SS and 87 Blazer ) for a down-payment on a 2017 Shelby Cobra GT350 .. which he traded months later for a 2017 Shelby Cobra GT350R .. that was $100k. ( no kids )
In 2017, I bought my Chevy SS $50k plus supercharger and cosmetics $10k ( 4 door sedan, see I am rational ) .. then I spent $10k on a trip to Disneyland ( 3 kids )
That was $320k between the 3 of us for toys and entertainment ( in 2017 ).
Meanwhile you probably got to go on the boat for a case of beer and a bag of weed. That’s what I call being financially savvy!
No, I've never been on his boat actually. I helped with the stereo install. A case of beer is like a glass of water when you drink a gallon of vodka every day ( in 2017 .. ) just to put things into perspective. This is what i call "when your annual income exceeds your cost of living." .
Right now I am driving a 2017 Dodge Ram company truck; it's more like a free loaner with free gas included.
The turning point was 2020 - that's when Shit hit the fan and cost of living changed. That's a different discussion. I should also mention; me, my cousin and friend all own houses as well.
.. spending $50k on a vehicle doesn't seem unreasonable in my opinion / depending on the circumstances.
