Took my son Go-karting for the first time yesterday. Not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed?

Was in the same state years ago with my son. He was so consistent where I would pound down a great lap then mess up the next one. I was proud of him as I'm sure you are,, good genes you know! Lol

Three dudes with a combined SC ownership that is more than 90 years gave up driving our SCs today and decided we should start an import clubView attachment 8881
So much for drifting, I can see it now, first snow, front wheels turned to lock, curb coming at you too fast, lol

i daily drove my 92 for the 3 years of ownership. I learned after trying to drive to work with less than an inch of snow, I couldn't get up the slight incline of my parents subdivision. The end torque just overpowers the wheels.

Last winter, I got caught in a snow storm that surprised weather forecasters with 4 more inches of snow than predicted. Surprisingly, my 4.6L 95 XR7 managed to get me home, albeit 3 hour longer commute than normal.

LSD was my savior when I still drove my Cougar in the winter, mind you it did have a propensity to get the car sideways when I didn’t want it to but hills were no longer a problem. Most people think of Chicagoland Illinois as being flat but there were intersections around here that felt like climbing mountains driving that car with the 3.08 open!

Did the 5k mile scheduled oil change, ATF D&F, and tire rotation today on the Honda.

Got all done, and managed to tighten up some loose nuts I found on the rear sway bar end links. Hopefully that resolves the clunking over speedbumps I've been hearing. I also found this driver side steering boot all gunked up. This would explain why my PS pump whines and whirrs on cold starts. Now I need to figure out if I can get away with replacing whatever seals and steering arms go here, or if I have to replace the entire rack and pinion. I hope it's not the entire rack and pinion, lol.

I love go-karting! What's the track look like? What kind of cars do they use here? Gas or electric?

The one we went to was an indoor track with electric karts. This is where we went;
The track was pretty good, but the karts were severely dialed back in power for the regular riders. The “pro” level they claim they go 40mph, but since I was with my son, and we wanted to race together, we went for “semi-pro” level, and they were lucky if they could go 20mph. Also it wasn’t well lit in there, which made it harder to know what was coming up. I think on the pro level and with better lighting, it would be a lot of fun, but I still prefer gas-powered karts.

Now just get him used to it and in a few years he'll be able to join us at Carlisle...those you definitely need some thick skin for, I know we've had our fair share of running into/spinning each other out there...we should be able to fill spots up next year since it's an anniversary year...

I raced there last year. Since you were on track 2, the banked spiral elevation turn that goes in front of the upper spectator area is a common place for people to spin out with the pro level karts. I placed third in my group of 16 with a lap time of 59.8. The first place finisher was at 58.1. 74.8 would have been 12th out of 16.

The lower level back straight going into the dark was a great place to pick off drivers who were slow to come out of and go into the turns.

I've found K1 Speed to have faster karts. The one by me has a flat elevation track. It's a better indoor electric kart experience for pure speed once you get over the novelty of multi-level racing. Supercharged has the best multi-level experience from what I've seen so far though. The most popular multi-level indoor track around here is slow and narrow.

We actually did 2 sets, and my first set was somewhere around that same time, 58 or 59 seconds, and I think I was in 3rd place on that one, but I didn’t take a picture of it. The second race, the kart felt noticeably slower, and that is when we got the times posted, but between the top time still being 74s, and the fact that nobody passed me, I figure they must have slowed them down for everyone.

Phokey gets a new vapor canister. The old one (2013 on left) didn't have slotted holes like the newer model ST's have and for some reason they also had these asshole looking tab fukkers that make a hard job even harder!

The hole left behind after removal. Getting access to remove the nut on the back left is not easy.

Once the canister valve and the other purge valve starts to fail it becomes hard to fill-up the tank starts to deform.

I made it easy to replace the purge valve up top and added the filter to keep the crap out that kills them.

Good video of the ordeal:

40MPH is a good speed for karting. Slow enough to be loads of fun, fast enough to be competitive.

Gas vs electric karts, it doesn't matter to me. Both types are great. What I care for is that they're fast. The one edge that electric karts have over gas karts is that they're all the same. I've had the times where gas karts have a throttle cable that's stuck "closed" preventing full throttle acceleration and suddenly, I'm the slowest driver.

K1 is my go-to place for karting. There's one about 40min from my place and it's worth the drive and cost of going. There's another place closer than that, they're gas powered karts. Those are also loads of fun, but their tires suck and I've had the aforementioned "closed" throttle cable there as well.

Been awhile since I posted anything. Here we are replacing a heater core.
Yuck. Glad its you and not me doing that job.

YIKES! That's not good.

I do understand long term ownership, I've owned my SC powered Comet 50 yearsView attachment 8886
Awesome car! I had a 64 Falcon convertible with a 289. Blew the engine after a drag race and never looked back. Boy, do I regret that!

Apparently this is an official GM headlamp assembly for my Saturn. Didn't realize GM was just reboxing aftermarket Chinese crap and selling it as OEM. I was mad at the seller until I saw the GM sticker on the box that said made in Taiwan. How sad.
