Post a picture you took today

Thumbs down on the parking job (although the guy in the Odyssey is doing markedly worse), but thumbs up that somebody appears to be actually DD'ing and maintaining one of these old rigs. Probably some older lady and her family keeps begging her to "upgrade" to something newer.

Bought a '97 Ford today (Matchbox), says was made in 1996.
Why did it have to be a Probe lol (slow slow car) I don't think those aged very well. Certainly not like an mn12. I never found a mn12 matchbox sized car but I keep looking.. This was about as close as I've got so far.

Nice score! You could probably double your money on eBay! :p For a few years I was collecting Hot Wheels. About 10 years later I was selling them. I did a nice return of doubling my money and then some on the rare ones.

Don't remember if I posted this here before or not. This was a couple days ago. This is my Honda.

Not sure if this warrants replacing the rack or if I can get away with just replacing some broken seals.

If I have to replace the rack, then I have to drop the subframe 😬

My Wyze thermostat decided to brick itself at 9pm on a cold and rainy Sunday night. A fitting end to a device that has given me nothing but problems since I installed it.

I was working in the basement when I noticed it was incredibly hot. Took a look at my phone and had about 100 notifications warning me of extreme cold in the house. Found the thermostat was displaying a measured interior temperature of 32°F and had kicked into emergency mode. It was not anywhere near 32°F inside.

The thermostat was wholly unresponsive to inputs from both the dial and the app, so I pulled it off the wall and shut the unit down the old fashioned way by pulling the fuse block. According to the internet, this is a common death for these thermostats. The solder joint on the sensor board fails and the device defaults to 32°F.

By this point Home Depot was closed, so I went to Walmart in search of a $20 non-programmable thermostat that would get me through the night until I decided what to replace it with. Just for fun, I looked at their smart thermostat selection and found they had the third gen stainless steel Nest on sale for $113. I was planning on a Honeywell T9, but a quick check of the reviews made me feel comfortable enough to give it a shot. Especially considering it was half the price of the T9.

Install was seamless and so far it's working great. Much better already than the POS Wyze it replaced.

The best part wast interaction with the Walmart clerk.

Clerk: "How are you doing this evening?"
Me: It is 9:30pm on a 40° Sunday night and I am buying a thermostat at Walmart. How do you think I am doing?
Clerk: "Our beer selection is back that way..." *points to beer aisle*

And yes I know my wall is the ugliest shade of grey you've ever seen. That's next on the list.

I'd pull the boot off and see how bad it is leaking. If it is the passenger side you might be able to replace the seal on the car. If it is the driver's side that seal is usually more involved, but I'm not intimately familiar with the inner workings of Honda steering racks.

My boot was leaking too, had a small tear in it. One time, my wife turned the steering wheel to hard in the garage (long, long story) and dumped a quart of steering on the floor. I thought for sure the rack had blown a gasket. Turned out the rack was fine and just filled it back up and have had no issues since.

Start by removing the boot, (mark the distance so you won't need an alignment when you put it back together) inspect the boot and either buy a new boot if okay or put new clamps on. Check the level and see if it leaks again.

The boot is just to keep dirt and debris out of the rack. If there is fluid getting to the boot then there is a seal leaking internally. He should be able to take the outer smaller clamp off and the larger clamp on the rack and pull the boot out far enough to see what is going on without disturbing the outer tie rod jam nut.

Based on that picture above I'd probably just leave it alone for now, but plan on replacing it at some point in the future.

Oops, I fucked that reply up.

Looking nice! Is this at a body shop or somebody doing it on the side or is this all you? Most body shops I know just want to crank out insurance work and want nothing to do with this type of work.

My dad runs the body shop, and I know all the guys personally so they hooked me up.

I sure could use a competent body shop to replace the rockers (properly) on the Mark VIII.... 🤔

My dad is just as big of an MN12 lover as I am, and he would love to do it, but the 5 hour trip seems a little much.

I do love road trips so the drive doesn't deter me much, but you're right. I need to call more places around here first, but the first half dozen I've tried are a bust - the ones that do any "real" body work have all shut down or switched to doing only insurance jobs on newer cars. :(

I also kind of still want to "save" the T-bird if possible. Sentimental value after having it for 20 years isn't going down any.

They are doing all the work on my car so that shouldn't be a problem, but it all comes at a price 💰 💰

What part of IN? We'll be in the UK for the 2nd half of May. I remember what I paid to have the rockers cleaned up and I recall being a tad surprised at the cost, so if it's anything close that to do the job right, it will be money well spent!

The shop is in Madison

Not far off 71 just out of Cincinnati, that's not too bad. We take trips to Cincy every so often to visit Jungle Jim's. My sis also lives south of Nashville, and Grog6 has some goodies I've threatened to pick up a few times...

I'll talk to him and let him know, I would hate for you to drive down here just for an estimate and not get the price you want.

I talked to my dad today, he said if you sent some good pictures of the rust he could work an estimate up.
